Hi Pesky,

If the previous size and compound combinations are anything to go by, from the original Elise on Pirelli’s to the S2 Elise on Bridgestones to the new Exige on Yoko 48s the fronts have always been narrower or harder, usually both, to make it far less likely for the front to outgrip the rear.
It can cause too much oversteer, especially for a car with a considerable rear weight bias. I think it was Dave Minter who said that they ended up using pirelli’s on the front of S1 Elises which they were the worst performing tyres they could find and were the only off the shelf tyre that could find to give them the balance they were after.
As for the latest 48s we know the grip levels are hugely improved but I don’t think that the overall balance of grip has changed that much.
It’s probably the same reason that Lotus only give you a front anti-roll bar and not a rear one.

I suppose you could put 48s on the front and Toyo R’s on the rear and enter the UK drifting championship! - And before anyone asks that’s not where you wear old rags, drink special brew and wander around muttering to yourself.

Sorry Pesky, went off subject a little there.

Super soft would be better.

BUT! Surely the big question, can they be bought (cheaper) like that without LTS on?!

Ian

Interesting that the 48 only gets a A rating for traction, when AA is best.

They only make the 16" front size in the LTS compound, when i spoke to Yokohama SA as they now stock the 48’s in a variety of sizes i could get the rears but the front was only in LTS compound.

Also no semi’s i have looked at come in soft compound in a 17" inch, at that size they are all M or M/H.
