Yes - made it

Hello everyone. Another newbie Exige owner (2006 S.) and registered to log on to the site. Good to be here.

I have had the car for a couple of months now and, apart from getting used to how it performs,(brilliantly) I have been gradually going over the car and adding to the project list. Some things are as expected - the build quality is specifically designed to give owners something to refettle over the winter months with a surprising amount of surface rust on components such as brackets and suspension. Other things are a surprise, like the amount of grip the A048’s have on wet roads. This perhaps hints at the grip I will have when they are hot and dry, but will have to wait for the track to find out.

Another surprise was finding the front grill is bonded in, so I think that a removable one will be the first modification. I have some ideas on how to achieve this, possibly involving a bit more finesse than an angle grinder, but if anyone has already done this, please let me know.

I hope to be able to meet some of you at a track or other event this year.

Cheers

Welcome John

Welcome!

48s are pretty good when wet (although I hear 888s are even better, I’m about to find out) but they drop off fast when they wear down. Given that they only start at about 5mm of tread it means their wet performance doesn’t last too long.

Not trying to scare you but in my experience the Exige changes more between wet and dry than other road cars I’ve driven.

Cheers, Ian

Welcome John

Hello!

Thanks for the welcome. The back 48’s also seem to wear faster than motor cycle rears so I am now researching alternatives more suitable for general road use. I think the search facility will be my friend.

You’ll change the character of the car by going too hard.
