yeah, Frank pushed the turbo on me, so he’s to blame. The turbo i’m running is at full boost at 4000rpm, so on track rthere’s no lag at all, and with the Motec set up, you can tune the boost to come on as suddenly or linearly as you want.
How much boost are you running to produce 600hp? The bottom end must be very tough, is it all trade secrets or can you share the build and spec of the engine?
honestly i don’t know exact spec, my engine builder keeps it all the details to himself. from what i do know, it’s remarkably simple…no liners, standard crank. mind you we only ran this power level for the Time Attack, for GT it’s limited to 2.1bar total inlet manifold pressure as per regs
Yeah I know you are running compound charging. I took a very good look at it actually. For a road setup it makes much sense
I was more curious about the GT3 setup.
Seems you guys have really got the hang of it now unlike the previous efforts by Lotus.
One more question about a detail which I might have missed, Do you retain the standard MMC liners when boosting over 2bar? At what stage do you recon the liners need to be reinforced, if at all?
As far as I know, the MMC liners where chosen because they were the best alternative for the bore spacing used and gave performance better then the other alternatives. They also resist wear very well and are perfect for an N/A engine, so it would be a shame if you would have to get rid of them to support high boost pressures.
The 2ZZ is one good engine unlike what some people seem to think. Put some pistons, better valves and springs and an uprated oil pump and you basically can get some huge power.
If funds permit over the winter I am considering a set of drop in pistons and a boost pressure increase, as I think the weak gearbox on mine is now sorted with the Jubu gears and the JS Racing oil cooler setup due to be fitted in the next couple of weeks.
To save cash I will pull the engine myself and pass it on to an engine builder to do the work, trying to find a good one might be an issue though
Can you PM me the details of the pistons and valves you would reccomend please, I know the circuitworx oil pump is the one to have
