Workshop Manual!

Does anyone have a ‘spare’ copy of an SI Exige Workshop Manual lying about or know where I can get one please!

I have never seen so many vacuum hoses and round black cannisters all over the place around the VHPD engine bay and I just want to tidy up (and remove those where not really ‘needed’ other than to ‘pass’ the original emmisions regs ).

Many thanks,

Pete.

Hi Pete
I’m glad I’m not the only one to find all the pipewrok confusing. Please publish anything you find out. Presumably you’re trying to fit the ITG. I had a problem getting 2 of the trumpet bolts out, my allen keys didn’t seem to be quite the right size
Hope its going better for you.
Alex

I have a electronic copy I can send you but I am at work until the weekend. If you don,t get sorted out let me know and I can mail it across.

Excellent! Many thanks for the link!

Now to trawl through to find the vaccum stuff!

Off the cuff, does anyone know what the two 4 inch diameter black plastic ‘balls’ are please (resist Pesky!!) . One to the LHS by the firewall and the other over the top of the RHS rear wheel liner.

Thanks a bunch!

Thanks Steve… what is a resonator valve and what is it used for please!

Now that is baiting Mr. Pesky !

I’m pretty sure the one at the back is a vaccum reservior for the A/C solenoids too.

Yes, given that only one is required for the resonator.

Hi Alex,

Yes fitting the ITG!!!

A simple job… NOT!

I have spent the best part of the whole day getting the original Pipercross blue backplate off the throttle bodies! Yes the round head hex nut bolts are a b…er! I managed to get a new 3mm hex key into about half of them to turn, but the remainder rounded off and did not shift! They are locktited in to stop sucking them into the TB’s!

Finally resorted to a pair of vice grips that I managed to get to grip enough to just start them turning, then repeated this till I was able to get the hex allen key to grip!. The trick was to remove the left trumpet first, which then allowed easy access to the next… and so on!

The new ITG backplate does fit on allowing JUST enough space for the Zus fastners to turn and lock! So all that now remains is to widen out the IACV pipe inlet hole which is far too small on the backplate!

I have replaced all the old roundhead hex bolts with some lovely new Allen bolts with a large 6mm square hex. So there will not be any snags removing these if required in the future!

Good luck!
Pete.

Hi Pete
Thanks for the advice I’m going to have another go tomorrow. Was it easy to source new bolts?
Alex

Also would it be worth putting spring washers on instead of loctite?

Alex

Nope. I think loctite is more suitable for the application. Vibration could work them loose and then that more to get sucked in and BANG!!

Any good fastner supplier should be able to offer a suitable replacement. If you get stuck let me know and I will go down to mine and get some for you!

Hi Pete
Long day at it today, the air was a bit blue in my garage! Finally got all the trumpet bolts out, using your vice grips method - thanks.
Will try and source some new bolts tomorrow (can’t find any fastener suppliers in Basingstoke on the web so may need to take you up on your kind offer) Have also started cutting the hole bigger in the ITG backplate. One thing I’ve noticed is the ITG backplate is much lighter than the original
Cheers
Alex

Having now completed all the cutting and bolting, it is apparant that the bloody zus fasteners do not quite clear the TOP of the throttle body! Arrgghhh!

2 choices. First is go with Mr Beans method and do away with the zus using the original mounts. This of course involves drilling out the ITG frame a bit… see other post! The other is to carefully trim away a part of the TB casting to allow the zus to fit…

Given up for today!

If the original bolts were used instead of the zus fasteners would they clear the throttle bodies?

Decided on a late nigh push and followed Clives route! Cut off lugs and drilled out as per Pipercross pattern. All sorted now… and sunny today!!!
