they are all connected to the same router which then passes any non internal network traffic out to the internet. all the machines will have the same external ip address which is the router itself. If this is wrong no networks would work.
If you are sure that all the machines have ‘file and printer sharing’ enabled for the wireless connection and the firewalls on the computers arent stopping the traffic … it must be the router. I am wondering if there is an option on the router setup for wireless connections to ‘hide’ the computers that are connected. As you probably know wireless networks are relatively easy to hack (very easy if you have no security measures in place) so this might be a numpty option thats defaulted to ‘on’. Just a guess based on the fact that you can get to the internet and the ping test fails.
This might help - Sharing Disk Drives Windows Network.
Are you based near Manchester ?
Ta muchly - it was the router - it had the “Numpty” option enabled - I just had to tell it which PC’s to allow in.
I take back all I said about SITTs - thanks chaps.
All this bloody time wandering around with bloody memory sticks!
My mistake, I thought they were trying to be connected over the internet (i.e. different ISPs)
Glad you got it working, for the record I cant stand wireless

Good job you waited until you solved the problem before revealing it!
I wear glasses and work in IT but I am cool with it.
