Wiper Motor Hijinks

Hello All,

When I turn on the wipers, the fuse blows immediately.

I assumed the wiper motor was Kaput. But I pulled it out, hooked it up directly to a battery, & it runs nice & smooth.

So if not the motor, what? The delay unit or the wiper lever on the steering wheel?

Is the wiper delay unit mounted on the motor, or elsewhere?

Thanks

worn through cables somewhere?

is the linkage moving freely?

How much current is the motor using though?

I,d back Ade,s thoughts …
Chafing wire somewhere …
If it works on the bench but not in situ its the wiring …

did you just connect power to the two wires that are exposed on the wiper motor plug ?

Sorry it took me awhile to get back - I needed to upload this pic.

When I ran it initially, I connected the green or red wire for (+) and the case for ground. When I connected to the ground tab on the connector, I got nothing.

I pulled the cap off to have a look at the brushes and you can see the break on the ground wire - that can’t be right!

Know where I can get some brushes? Here in the USA, I’ll have no choice but to get a whole new wiper motor.
