Has anyone done a trackday on wintertyres ? By that I don’t mean all weather, but specific winter tyres like Sottozero’s or Yoko W drive ?
Are they ok on a (very wet cold) trackday ?
ive done a few track days on toyo T1-r and they was fine, just remember to have a cool down lap driving through puddles
yes, they’re fine. I have a set of Toyo’s T1R, and they were fine on a very wet Spa-Francorchamps day in september. I was very happy to have them and not the A048’s !!
But I wondered if real winter tyres like Yokohama W drives, Pirelli sotozerro, Michelin Pilot Alpin.
i tried a couple of laps of the local circuit around this time last year with sottozero at the back and snowsport at the front.
first attempt was on a barely damp track - disaster, didn’t even bother completing the lap. two corners was all it took to overheat them even on a very chilly morning.
half way through swapping wheels, a huge raincloud appeared so i put the winters back on and tried a few laps in a downpour. not bad, was easily the quickest car out but pretty boring.
as soon as the rain cleared i resumed the swap over to fairly worn a0-48’s - much better allround tyre.
tx motorhead ! As I drive to the track and back, I guess those wintertyres are pretty useless unless it stays incredibly wet the whole day…so not very interesting…
yeah, very wet and very cold. you can press on all you want on the road but a couple of corners on track is a whole different ball game and they’re not up to it.
