This year we fitted both ‘normal’ cars with WinterTact remould winter tyres and have (finally!) been able to get some snowy mileage on them.
Bought through mytyres.com they come in at around 50 per tyre, fitted, and have so far proved to be an excellent buy.
Performance on snow, whether it’s fresh, compacted, wet or a combination has been faultless. Dry noise is a little up on standard tyres but that’s to be expected and not at all intrusive.
The two we’ve used are WT81 and WT83. Tread patterns are very similar to Continental. The tyres are TUV approved and carry the correct snow/mountain symbol for places where winter tyres are a legal requirement.

You still have the joys of rear wheel drive , in snow, with rear wheel drive, such fun I don’t think
and I hope you told your insurers’s most of whom consider ‘winter tyres’ as a modification !!
Most insurers listed don’t require to be notified any more and generally it doesn’t affect cover (exceptions seem to be ‘roadworthy’ and ‘value’, both of which seem reasonable).

I suggest that uses ‘remould’ tyres on an Elise or Exige is not advisable, and they are NOT rated for the car
I have winter tyres on my BMW 530d due to it being the worst car ever made for snow conditions. I can’t rate the winter tyres highly enough. The car feels like it could drive up a ski slope. I’m surprised insurers don’t make winter tyres compulsory because they work very well.
