Wing Change

Bear with me on this, I’m working through the night so as the time goes by the postings will become more random.

Is there ‘any’ benefit of change the wing on the S2, I’ve seen Gavin’s one (oooh er missus) and it is rather large and today I saw a fellow MEMBERS Exige with rather a large 'un - is there any real life benefit unless your car is fully set and prepared for the track.

Hi Fatcat

I’m not an aerodynamicist (big word for early morning !! ) but I looked at bigger rear wings etc.

The problem is that if you generate more downforce on the rear you must do the same to the front to retain the balance. You then get into wider floors, sills & rear diffuser & before you kmow it you have spent over 3000.

You also risk damaging the rear clam & most people who fit larger wings have to add bits to ensure it doesn’t flex.

The Reverie website has some interesting wind tunnel pics & data - I believe this was on a Exiges.Com members car.

In the end I fitted a slightly larger rear wing with an increased angle of attack & carbon front splitter.
Cost me about 900

Chris

Hi Chris, did you receive my pm earlier this week.
Darryl

If any thing the Exige S2 needs more front downforce.

SO fitting a bigger rear will just cause more drag and upset the balance even more

I aways think drag is an issue for non race car drivers.

So I would rather have more straight line speed and less drag with more driving lessons than a big wing.

All imho ofcourse

Hi Daryl

Sorry - yes I did. Meant to reply - doh !!

If not already sussed - Ade had the exhaust.

Happy to show you my car - I’ll PM you when I am around at home - Have an office in London so not seeing home that much at the moment

Chris I guess I’ll see you Friday but the Craners were a joy last week with the new set up. The front has the new splitter, 2kg less and a neg camber change - the rear has the bigger adjustable wing, diffuser (which you’re coming to see) and about 17kg less weight. The balance felt sublime …are you driving Friday mate btw?

Straight line speed David come on there can’t be too much in it mate surely, yes competitive but for track days lots more power has to be the only way But seriously the set up worked well…I’d changed from 48s to R888 as well! My next question is…should I lower it, new spings and dampers or get bigger brakes before adding a Turbodrive that is Thanks for the images mate.

As for a wing change, our S2 rear wing looks cheap & tacky imho…but they’d be no way I have changed it without changing the splitter and front camber first!

Friday - Can’t wait - Hope it’s dry

See you then

Which splitter did you go for?

I think this is going to be the first change I make to my Exige S and I am looking for feedback on the various aftermarket ones.

Reverie. All my carbon is from there - wing, diffuser and splitter. Quality stuff! The splitter fits right under the car and requires the whole front end lifted. I used a jack under B points both sides installing axel stands under A points both sides. From there you have to either cut out the splitter with a Dremmel (knife through butter) around the front of each wheel arch or cut the protruding area off the clam. I should of done the latter but just couldn’t bring myself to cut up my car

It’s a 3 hour job max…I btw am no DIY’er but hey worked for me. Along with the other parts does a great job and looks the nuts I’ve only seen one other and that was from Elise-Parts and I would have to say a big no to there carbon! I’m sure the rest of there gear is great but there’re carbon I cannot recommend!
