did I go to Castle Lotus and drive their PP 240 Exige S?
While the overall performance was ok the brakes were superb compared to the standard ones on my S, nearly crashed driving my car after due to the brakes just not doing anything for the first part of the travel plus you have to push so much harder to get the same braking efficiency So it appears this is going to cost me more upgrade money
So the question is, the Lotus kit is about 1800 plus vat and fitting which is disks calipers front and rear pads and braided lines, the total is liable to be 2800, what other options are there?
Eliseparts do there own ally belled disks and calipers but are they as good? Or is it a case of just put in better pads? Or is the Lotus upgrade worth the extra money?
Time to decide…
I’ve had it on my car for over a year now and it is very good.
I think the price is 1,500 not 1,800 though. I also bought mine when my disks / pads needed replacing minimising the upgrade cost.
There have been quite a few posts over the years with people getting simialr effects by keeping standard callipers but upgrading disks, pads, braided lines.
(not the reason i bought the big brake kit but i also think they look loads better)

Do it in stages:
Start with pads eg Pagid RS42.
Next braided hoses & better fluid.
Next ali-bells & AP rotors (or get these when originals are knackered)
Finally AP 4 pots on front.
The last two really only needed for regular (ie 10+) trackdays per annum.
I would have to agree with pesky as the pads will make a huge difference and are relativley cheap…
Hi Ade
I have just bought the big brakes upgrade kit & will have my old setup available in the next week.
This will comprise of RS42 front pads, EBC Grooved & Dimpled front discs & EBC red stuff rear pads.
I have used this setup only once at Oulton Park in December & found it much better than the standard discs & pads.
I have only bought the big brake upgrade in a quest to return my GT spec car to the original spec - don’t ask !!
The existing kit has only done about 300 miles of mostly road & the one day at Oulton. Cost me about 300 - was hoping to get about 150 via Ebay - If you are interested let me know

Thanks for the heads up, I’m not sure if it is what I am finally after, along with better braking I want to reduce the unsprung and rotational mass too
Ade, I put 42’s into my S on Saturday and you will not believe how much better the brake pedal feel is at the top of the stroke - It has satisfied my issue with the standard set up at the moment, all for a reasonable 113 and 2 hours tinkering (I took my time and did some cleaning under there also).
Only tiny, tiny issue is the 42’s do not sweep the inner 1/3" of disk, so you get a rusty ring (ooh-err missus!) but it is a small price to pay for the improved braking!

I think it’s the same with the 14s.

I bought Seans old Eliseparts ally belled disks yonks ago - in fact the same day he set about his Exige with powertools to make it into the thing it is today!
I am running these with braided hoses and RS42’s. I would say these are better than standard but i think i need better fluid and to bleed them again to get the full effect.
I have had the RS42’s on since I bought the car 3 years ago. Done at least 12k miles on them and still life left in em.
Re Rusty Ring
I had the bells re anodised gold (blingtastic) and shot blasted the inners of the rotors - mounting lugs and the unswept area of the disk. Got some high temp primer and matt black from Halfrauds, masked roughly to the edge of the swept area (just inside) and hey presto no more manky ring.
Once in action the pad trues up the wonky masked line into lovely crisp unsoiled ring!
PS No 28 - what Seans car did look like once upon a time

Ade just do it, as your power goes up you will need bigger binders…It is realy not a matter of worth it is truly a matter of safety…
Yeah some one will say they only stop you 5-7 ft. shorter than the stockers but that 5-7 ft. could be the difference between stopping in front of the wall or going through it… I’ve got em on my car… now just don’t move the wall any closer…
yup 5-7 feet into the wall would be quite bad!
10" [ into the wall] would be too much she said
Just got to see if my dwindlimg budget will allow me to get them, I still don’t know how much everything else is going to cost yet
