A few days ago, I washed my car for the first time in ages. I then drove it into the garage. The next day, I noticed white powder around both exhaust tips. Close up, it looks cystalline, almost like frost. It has no smell, and feels like a fine talcum powder. There is a small amount inside the end of the pipes, just individual spots distributed randomly, but quite a significant coating around the outside of the tip.
Any idea what might cause this? A chemical reaction with the soap (Autoglym), or something nasty going on in my engine?
I’ve already asked the question on SELOC, but wanted to get another opinion here.
Somebody suggested it might be the cat breaking up, but I’d have thought that would leave more residue inside the pipe.
The cystalline form combined with it being on the chrome, rolled tip rather than inside the pipe suggests to me that it’s some kind of chemical reaction taking place with something in the exhaust gases.
Exige S2, standard apart from stage 2 exhaust and (pipercross?) induction kit.
