Which Tyres for wet trackdays?

As title says, which tyres are you using for wet trackdays?

Currently have ZZR’s which i really like in the dry, but in the wet they are lets say interesting. :open_mouth:

Thanks

Alan

As long as there isn’t standing water the ZZR are pretty good. You just have to have the confidence to get them moving around a bit to get them warm. If there’s standing water it’s clearly a different story.

Problem with going with something else is that it’s rare for there to be standing water all day and without a trailer to carry spares I wouldn’t want to be stuck on std road tyres all day.

I’m with Will ^^

I have a set of ZZS for the Caterham and they are better when there’s standing water. If you carry on using them when it’s dry then they seem to go off after about 20mins. If I could only have one set it would be ZZR and exercise caution or just don’t go out when there’s loads of standing water.

I do typically trailer my car to trackdays, so i am able to take another set with me.

In that perhaps race wets if they don’t need to be road legal, otherwise ZZS or I heard of at least one person using Pilot Sport.

Think I might take up the Book-a-track service to drop wheels at the track, and have some proper wets tucked away.

Are you going to make it to Donington on the 11th Tim?

Having ragged ZZS’S in the wet and dry around Spa I’m a massive fan. ZZR’s sure but I reckon there’s not a great deal in it for a track day tyre and they move in a really good way giving loads of feedback.

Yeah I don’t mind ZZS’s in the wet, for the same reasons stated above. Some ‘proper’ race wets would be night and day better though, would just mean you would need to change back pretty pronto once the track started to dry. With ZZS’s you could simply keep on going.

ZZS’s here as well, been ‘testing’ with them and found them to be really good as others have said.

I have a second set of wheels with Uni Royal Rain Sport 3 in case of standing water on a track day. That does occasionally pose a logistical problem though, requiring another car to take those up in.

I doubt it now, I have that a big project finishing that week :frowning:

I’m Aldgate these days if you fancy a cheeky pint sometime

Thanks for all the replies so far.

What are the ZZS like with any standing water? The tread pattern does’t look too dissimilar to the ZZR? Are the ZZS a softer compound?

Pretty good. Not sure about the compound.

I still have very vivid memories of that day. Very light touch on the controls needed. You see me looking in the mirrors up the hill at the end. A 911 GT3 had just aquaplaned off into the barriers behind me.
