Which tyres for a trip to the ring... Audi Elise.

Hi guys, I have an Audi powered S1 Elise which is running on Exige S1 rims. The tyres are looking a little tired and I want to be sure I can make it back!

Which tyre and compound do you think would work best? I have to drive there and back too.

I’m not a very fast ring driver but would like to get good grip + some wet weather safety as well.

Can anyone recommend the best mobile tyre fitter as well? I’ll more than likely need to use one.

I had new Toyo 888’s on the first time i went (S/C Honda) and it was very wet, they seemed ok but it was the first laps i did and i just went round at a slowish pace.

Yoko 039’s have more groves to shift water.

888’s are cheaper and if you dont want to give max in the wet i would say go for them.

Cannot agree more.

Imagine, being new to the Nurburgring - the track will probably be dry/wet/damp/slippy/slimy/oily…

Having experienced a big and costly off at the 'ring a few years ago, I would always err on safety.

Choose bloody good tyres, the A039’s are bloody good all weather tyres.

Good luck

Thanks guys, I’m keen on A039’s but it seems that they are lotus dealer only supplied

Can they be sourced and fitted elsewhere? I need them by end of next week.

and i’ve got a set with 4mm front and 3mm rear sat in the garage if someone wants a set for a spare set of rims.

Speak to Russell Gibbons at Lotus Motorsport. However, you probably won’t get him until Monday, as the factory usually closes at lunchtime on Fridays.

The 39s are fookin expensive, so brace yourself…

Event mobile tyres will supply R888’s for 569 fitted which sounds reasonable.

If it’s raining at the ring I won’t be going out anyway. I’ve been there and done that. I don’t have the skill or the insurance!

Hi, been to the ring multiple times now with my S1 on A039. I know it well and drive it fairly quick. The ring doesn’t wear out the tyre’s that quick which is nice. The A039 work fine even in the wet. Treat the ring with respect and be careful in the wet when you pass the first double right hander in Hatzenbach II than you will be fine . Have fun.

I sold my used A039’S for 475… new some 600+, but it’s finding the bloody things

039 Without a doubt - great in wet conditions and not too bad when dry either …
