At some point soon, I will have to take the front clam off to fit the front braided hoses. (Does it really have to come off… I had braded hoses fitted to the S2 Elise and the fitting was tight but possible!) Anyway, if it indeed comes off, it seems like a sensible idea to replace the standard plastic capped rad at the same time too!
So! Has anyone here fitted a new rad? The Pro-Alloy ones get a great write up, but is the triple pass overkill? and the standard thickness one ok?
And on the S2 with aircon, is there enough depth to fit the thicker rads (I am presuming that the aircon rad is also attached to the main rad as per the S1?)
OEM rad is around 2.9kg and the Pro-Alloy is about 4.1kg. I’m not sure any of the all alloy rads are lighter than OEM. In fact the OEM one eventually makes your car even lighter by letting all the water out…

Always at the worst time too, mine went on a day when I was up to my eye balls in DIY covered in sh1t and figured as I could not be bothered cooking I would nip to Maccys drive through as I was not dressed for going out and still had loads to do.
The rad exploded just as I pulled off Mcdonalds carpark, when I say exploded I thought someone had thrown a supersize sprite all over my car as I could not see anything there was that much water. I spent the afternoon waiting to be towed back, being pointed and laughed at while my rather sorry looking car stood in a pool of its own piss.
The car was only 18 months old at the time so I made sure I got an all ally triple pass rad to replace it.
