Which Performance Friction pads?

A quick question from an impostor on here, S2 SC Honda’d Elise

I’m currently running Ferodo DS2500’s all round with the Lotus spec AP 4 pots and standard calipers at the rear on RBF660 fluid. I’m not impressed with the pads to be honest, no real bite and I’ve suffered from fade on the road and a wet track day.

The cars main use is fast road use with about half a dozen track days per year.

I can’t seem to find anywhere that sells the PF pads for the front calipers?

Do people run the same type front and rear?

Cheers,

Neil.

Hey Neil, hope you are well mate…give John a call at JSRacing buddy. Job done.

So how is the car…

JSR is probably your best point of call …
Pm JDS on here or Sean b if you have naan bread to trade

Got mine from JSR. Carrot/job

I’m good thanks Jonny

As for the car, well it’s been a testing experience I’ll say!
I’ve had the usual Honda issues with drive shafts and it being an early conversion that was tracked a lot in a previous owners hands.

Off the top of my head I’ve had fixed/fixed myself:

Side engine mounts broken - Latest spec versions fitted.
Sub frame cracked - Fixed FOC when in for some other work.
Subframe brace bent - Result of broken engine mounts.
Offside drive shaft boots throwing grease - I’m trying some really expensive grease in the joint with breathers fitted.
Melting cats - Running too rich perhaps, I might go to Sam at TDI or Scuffers for a custom map?
Broken exhaust manifold - Result of the broken engine mounts.

The majority of that was sorted last year, the mapping does need looking at though.

While that lot has been going on I’ve had the usual upgrade spending spree

Nitron rose joints
Rebuilt Nitrons to the latest fast road spec - 400/500+helpers
2Bular 8X24 GT3
2Bular Sports cat - Melted X2 :frowning:
2Bular Panel eliminator kit
Yokohama AD08’s

That engine is sublime, so much more flexible and is effortlessly quick.
On the right road (billiard table) it’s amazing, the weight difference is really noticeable!
On the wrong road, ie most British roads it’s hard work, pulls and gets thrown off line easily. The geo I’m running is a bit too much when the road gets bumpy so that needs pulling back to something more road orientated.

And breathe…

Neil.

The only PF compound available for the Lotus 4 pot is 01

We have them on shelf all the time, run them in all of the race 2-elevens.

Yes that sounds a bit testing, I couldn’t do half that work! bad news, goods news on the mods though Neil. It’s good to have a little spend and it does look a beauty mate

I’m just commencing work again on mine now I have a few things out of the way, should start coming together by Christmas.

You need to specify which type of caliper/disc you run, as the pads are different thickness’s between the one piece disc and the ally belled version.

It’s these calipers here:

With these discs I think:

Neil.

You will need the thinner pads. In the strange world of brake pad manufacturers, these are more expensive than the thicker pads for the early calipers!!

7834.01.14.44 is the Performance Friction part number

Cheers guys, an views on running different compound pads front to rear to give a little more rear bias?

Neil.

With your set up, you are a little limited. PF only come in 97 compound rear and 01 compound front for the 4 pots.

Tried lots of things to get more rear braking as well, ended up with the old front 2 pots on the rear and PF01 pads all round. This setup is so much better, going to try 308mm discs on the rear next year but I suspect this will be a step to far.

What have you done to mount them and the hand brake situation?
Anything else with different piston sizes regarding master cylinder etc?

Neil.

You could use a pagid RS14 in the rear to help with balance. I’ve done this with both 42’s and PF’s up front.

I’ve done the last several months (and track days) with rs14 in standard calipers at the back and ds2500 4 pot at the front. The latter came cheap with the calipers. They lasted and served their purpose reasonably well and the balance front/rear is about what i’m after but I’d agree on the lack of bite. Thinking of going CL RC5+ next as my experience of RS42 is they get a bit rubbish when only half used. Know nothing about PF and will be interested to hear. Will report back on findings also.

Btw if you want to know about lack of bite, try the 29 boggo mintex pads that fit the AP 4 pots - I shouldn’t complain as a set somewhat salvaged my last day out and got me safely home

Got the calliper mounts from a guy in Italy and you can still retain the handbrake, not sure if you can do the same as your car is K based not yota and they might be different?
Dave at seriously lotus sells similar so he might be able to advise
