Hi there
my VHPD 190 engine was rebuilt 6 years ago and has done 4000 miles since (ok I’m ashamed). Time for an oil change. Looking at the litterature, two products were advised : Mobil one 5W50 and Castrol formula RS 10W60. My engine runs on the Castrol. Looking for some RS oil, I realize Castrol has made changes in the current oil offer, the RS beeing discontinued and replaced by the Edge (not U2 related) 10W60. I use Motul 300V 15W50 and 20W60 on other engines (NLR).
Would you be kind enough to tell me what you / your Lotus specialist use ?
Thank you
Currently using Castrol Edge 10W60, bought from Nielsen, and very happy with it
Torco SR1 synth oil 20W-50, done about 30k miles now - no issues.

I use Motul 300V Competition 15W/50 in my beastie. Given that it stopped the engine grenading despite the big ends looking like swiss cheese, I swear by it
Always run Pro R 15/50 Fuchs in my K, brillant stuff and used in extreme conditions for Alpine and track work
Miller XFS fully synthetic 5W-40 as filled by Phoenix Motorsport, Lancs.
Know nowt about oils really but guided by the experts. There seems to be some wide spread viscosity figures
To find the best oil you really have to decide what you want to do with your car? Is it a track day demon or is it a devoted road car? The reason i ask is because the stresses involved are totally different from a track to a road and with that i mean by that is. Heat, centrifugal forces, cold start methods, stop start etc etc.
I’m fotunate as i have access to an oil laboratory and reguarly sample my oil to see how well or not as the case may be it is peforming. Oils may carry the same rating i.e 10W 60, but there blends, make up are totally different and certain oils are better in certain environments.
I’m fortunate as i have access to a oil laboratory which gives me feedback on how the oil is performing. In the past i have found that when i run the car on the road the oil degrades quicker than it does on the track.
In my humble opinion and the results of the oil laboratory and value for money i believe Castrol 10W 60 Edge is the better oil if you mix it up with both track and road driving. If its a track day weapon Motul 300V competition is my choice.
But at the end of the day the frequency of changing both oil and filter will be the deciding factor to protect the engine.

Thank you all for your imput
Car will be more road oriented, as I would like to visit Dave Walker one day to fine-tune the Emerald before trying it on a circuit.
As I sell Motul, I obviously have a good price deal on those. I guess the 15W50 could be a possible choice, pending a good warm up of the engine before letting it rev.
