Which Cambelt?????

S1 K Series needs a new cambelt as its 3 years old now…

Any suggestions as to anything to go for / avoid???

Cheers

Mark

Avoid a 2nd hand one, Mark

Always used Gates 5416xs or Piper TBP17wide cambelts without any issues. No experience of other brands. Make sure you get a new manual tensioner too (no cheap copies)… and best of luck with the bottom crank pulley bolt!

Hum mine is 5 years old… Any advise on durability (car hasn’t done sufficient mileage to consider a “belt servicing”) ?

I think you should change it mate asap.

It’s not only the miles, time degrades the belt too…

I recall it’s a change every 5 years, but maybe less!

Thanx Pete, I have to work on the beast this winter anyway

Yeah, Pete’s spot on - don’t take any chances with the cambelt. Personally, I’d change it on a VHPD every 3 years just to be on the safe side.

There’s the Gates kit - but also the Contitech one, guess both are good quality ?

Recommendation is change every 3 years. If it breaks, it’ll be very expensive. I’ve not done many miles at all but don’t want the risk!

Interesting…

… but has anyone heard of a cambelt failing on a VHPD?

Or roughly every time HGF occurs??

   Tim you naughty boy

… as the S1 guys pass the broken gearbox S2’s every 2 years!

Usually in a cloud of steam (K series) burning CV grease (Honda) going backwards due to coming on boost mid corner (Audi)

Did I manage to catch all options?

Don’t forget the na’s passing us all … till oil starvation kicks in due to their cornering ‘G’

Also I won’t be able to feel whats going on through my slippers on the pedals, and even if i can the view through all the pipe smoke will be hopeless.

It will however, be very comfy as i glide along serenely, listening to radio 4

I think I know the answer to this. Got to get a new cam belt as well, is it really worth getting verniers and the timing done? Very limited miles but all on track. The engine is stroppy at low revs and I think many of the horses have bolted, or never existed.

Try Tesco.

Sharp !

I hear Tesco burgers are very rich in Shergar
