Which brake pads..?

The brake pads front and rear need replacing on my S1 Exige. I will do up to 5 track days/year, the rest will be weekend blats etc. I am reasonably quick on track, and will push the car close to its limits.

I have ordered a set of RS14’s, but I am concerned they will offer poor performance on the road…

What do you recommend?

Thanks

It’s all very personal but I hated the RS14’s and moved to Performance friction which seem more reasonable on the road and are great on track, now you have ordered them see if you like them if not try PF

RS14s are absolutely fine, albeit pricey! Don’t forget that Ade has an S2 with ABS, which often have problems with RS14s.

Other alternatives are Performance Friction (as Ade says), Carbon Lorraine or SBS.

I’m just like you - S1 Exige, 5 or 6 track days. Just bought (couple of months ago) RS14s and they are perfectly fine on the road & on track.

Cheers

rs14s are awesome on track, no fade at all, how come people dont like them ? dont they work with abs or something ?

Thanks for that guys!!

RS14’s arrived today…so just as well.

I suspect it is the servo assistance of the S2 along with the AP BBK that is the issue for me, when cold they grabbed, when at town driving temp they didn’t work, however on track when hot the were brilliant. I just could not stand the first 2 problems :frowning:

This is becoming the hottest difference of opinion.

I don’t like RS14’s and they don’t do the disks any good, they leave residue on the disk and then become grabby, especially if you get them too hot. Plus once you have used RS14’s on a set of disks, you need to change the disks or have them surfaced to get rid of the residue before using a different pad.

Performance Frictions do none of the above, however can be noisy when they are cold. They will also out perform an RS14 on track.

I used the milder RS42 on my S2 road / occasional track day car and they were great. However I never pushed them to the limit on track so can’t comment on there extreme performance.

The car already had Rs14’s on so it makes sense to keep the same - at least until the disks need replacing - especially if you need to have them re-surfaced.

Thanks for the replies.

Wheels going to be refurbished tomorrow - new R888 on - new pads! Then the car is off to have the SC fitted at Hoffmans, then finally a respray… should look nice!! :astonished:

“Grabby” on track - you must have been using RS14s at Silverstone - enjoyed watching you spin twice on the telly this weekend!

However, you must have changed them to enable you to win the 2nd race - great stuff seeing you do that again, you Racing God! :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

I thought the stopping power of the RS14s was awesome, are you saying if I try these other ones it will be even better ? How much are they compared to the RS14s ?

Performance Friction pads are cheaper than Pagid’s

Bugger off Pesky!!! lol
