H & T. I don’t so much as heel and toe more roll over. My pedals are offset as much as the pad on the brake pedal will allow but wearing my Puma race boots I can miss more often then I care to mention. Same when I briefly had some Feroza, wore them once but didn’t make the difference I’d hoped although they were very comfy. My Adidas Samba’s however I’m pretty much 100%, it’s just they are bit bulky and not really the best feel nor very racy…how supercharged am I Has anyone found a race boot or shoe that maybe broader than most with good pedal feel. I quite often see Chris Harris on Drive wearing I think Asics driving road cars…At least I think they are…
Or is there a definitive solution to the pedals on the S2. Gav’s S1 Sport 160 was perfect, that would be nice…
I’ve got some ancient puma racing boots and they work fine in my S1 but as with Peter occasionally catch the loud pedal under braking. I’ve actually worn a hole in the right boot from h&t.
Reality is it actually depends on the pedals and size foot and length of leg.
Shorter legged people with smaller feet can typically heel and toe litterally. With longer legs and bigger feet its actually harder to articulate in the same space hence rolling onto the throttle. And obviously there are some pedal boxes with a massive distance between B&T where rolling is much harder.
Converse always seem a happy universal suitability for me, but the lack of a rolled heel aggravates. I use a no brand pair of ‘trendy’ lace us daily type shoe most of the time these days, since I work for myself its basically the only shoe I wear. “proper” leather shoes I find the width of the sole is too wide for most cars (I’m 31cm/45.5).
I find footwear does make quite a difference. Puma speed cats (quite narrow) not so easy but my beaten up old Puma race boots 100%
Trial and error, what suits one will not suit all.
Im the same, i only have small feet and struggle to heal and toe. I can only really do it effectively when im in the van wearing my great big clod-hopper work boots and im able get my foot across the two pedals.
You may have to look at taking the throttle pedal out and remounting the foot pad on the end of the arm to suit you.
Rarely get a manual truck at work nowadays but when I do I practice h+t even in steel toecap boots.
To make it worthwhile tho I have to shift down at least 2 gears at a time. …
At the recent Hethel day my instructor said to me after a few laps “why don’t you try some H&T?”
“I’ve been trying since we started!” i said. Ah well…
it did get a bit better after that, but i was more concerned with avoiding the nearby armco. I did better at Anglesey. Same car, same shoes (Pilotti trainer type driving shoe with a very stiff sole).
If you really feel a wider throttle pedal would help then surely this has to be one of the easiest things to fabricate when you consider some of the mods people have done on here
Mine is 2005 and the brake pad is moved all the way across already. I suppose you can fabricate something and I have given it thought but being Aluminium and also safety critical I don’t really trust myself to do the job.
^^^^^^this. It’s actually quite a piece of art and would be involved to replicate. Dave had a set in and I got mine from him. I didn’t use the brake and clutch pedals
