I went out for the first time in a couple of weeks yesterday, and when I got back the sidelights wouldn’t switch off.
I’m guessing the relay is sticking after all this damp weather, but looking in the 111R service manual I have and in the SELOC TechWiki I can’t find it’s location.
I’ve ordered a new one from Eliseparts, but in the event it doesn’t come with instructions, where is the relay in the S2 for sidelights?
The pdf manual I have tells me where I can find the wiper relay, the horn relay, the one for the cooling fan etc. etc…but not for the sidelights. Does anyone know where I might find it?
AFAIK its part of the switch controller module, located somewhere behind the instrument cluster. The 111r manual shows it in section MP pg15.
The switch controller is a collection of six relays that handle back lighting, side lights and the main/dip business.
Not sure what you’ve ordered off eliseparts, but I don’t think they do it.
Hmmm, seems in my hurry to buy something, I bought a dipped beam relay, not a sidelight relay.
The car’s under warranty still, I’ll swap the switch over with the foglight switch, and if the problem still persists it’s off to a dealer. If the unit has gone, they can deal with it.
I’m just trying to avoid the long drive and inevitable train journey involved with leaving the car at a dealers for warranty work.
I had a look in the big black book last night, I think it could be lurking under the dash somewhere part of the main control unit but couldn’t pin it down sorry! Try calling Lotus first…

Agree with above. Quite common failure, I’ve had it replaced on an Elise and an Exige.
Had the dash panel off at lunchtime and swapped over the foglight switch for the sidelight one, problem persists so it’s looking like it’s either the controller or something far too difficult for me to track down.
I didn’t take the shroud off the steering column, but there’s a guy selling what looks like one of these controllers on ebay for 20 so tonight’s job is to check if it’s the same thing. Considering it would cost me more than that in fuel to get to a dealer for the warranty work, it might be the cheapest option.
Just to let everyone who searches for this problem in the future know…
It was the switch pack.
Although it’s nickname is now the bitch pack as it’s a bitch to get to, see this thread for a picture of where it is and what’s involved in getting to it.
Why do Lotus put something with so many functions behind the Stack?
However all the lights are now working fine, and I can go play at the weekend on the Yorks Moors
