With my Cup up for sale to fund my meteoric rise to the top of the international racing scene I have to think about an alternative fast road/track day car…and I cant!
Factor everything in and I just dont see an all round alternative…
911’s are either compromised from a capital and running cost (996+) or ergonomic (964/993) persepctive
Ferraris are just crap if you want to drive hard on track or service them…ever
Aston, BMW, Lambo, Maser…are just not sports cars
Nobles dont know but I’m told they are as fragile as Ferrari with less backup?
SO what to do. Right now I’m contemplating keeping the Cup and buying an older Exige to race up?
thats a very hard question which has cost me alot of money the last few years.
the next best track car for road is a 964 RS lightweight but you have had one of those, 993 RS are 65k and expensive to look after.
if you want to take a car on track nothing beats a lotus for lap times and costs imo which is why i have come back to one.
If you want a monster road car which you can run on track and you want to spend the high running costs on track the BMW CSL is a great car for 33k and you could then sell the Trophy aswell.
But I would keep your CUP car and Trophy Combo and build another race car.
Nobles - more fragile than Ferraris with less back up.
I looked at used 355s and then bought a M12 GTO3 - aware of several who went the 355 route and tracked them with much less trouble. I’ve come back to an Exige!
russ…no not at the moment…graham is bending my ear…thing is I can’t face walking away from 35k when I stuff it into a) the armco or worse b)some nice chap like you! thats the thing…and I WILL stuff it.
Jimbers - I’m not ignoring you I’m still trying to work out the best way of taking the coolest car in the whole world (yours) in part exchange for the second coolest car in the whole world (our blue motorsport car)
If I hadn’t bought the Exige I would have got an NSX. Beatiful to look at, fantastically engineered engine (okay not the last word in straight line performance) and Ayrton Senna had a hand in it too.
They’re not too expensive to run (our good friends at Plans will keep you going) and the owners club are a good bunch too!!
interesting left field entry Bob…and I did quite like the final Type R incantation…but its maybe not quite enough hooligan?
graham i’m cool, take your time. They may be a few options after the first bend at Brands! Oh and as part of the my review I might like to know the rental options if there are any?
I used to own a pre face lifted NSX, and totally agree with the above. The earlier versions had that all black roof which gave the car a lower, more agressive look. For me the earlier 3 litre with non power assistance is the gem of the bunch in manual…I totally adored that car, i ran it for three years and only the cost of some tyres and usual servicing which was buttons. I fitted a sports exhaust and it used to whale like an F1 car, never let me down once and was a truely remarkable piece of engineering. It also felt Quick considering it only had 276 BHP…You don’t see many on track so i think it would be a serious contender for your new Toy Jimbers…
I was offered a cherished late manual 3.0 car in silver, it was gorgeous. I regret not buying it now, it would have been cheaper to run than my S2 and wouldn’t have lost a penny in value…
So why did you sell it ? They’re as rare as hens teeth around here.
I unfortunately had to sell to raise capital to start our business. Believe me i tried every other avenue before advertising the car…It was one of those moments where you are sad enough to even take a photo of the car when the new owner is driving away in it… .God knows what he was thinking…
I have to agree they look stunning in silver mine was a red car; i’d share a picture with you but i still can’t manage to load photos up from my photo albums…
