Ive just bought a full set from Graham at Plans Motorsport!
thanks, how much did you get them for if you don’t mind me asking?
Did they post them to you or did you get them fitted there?
I just got 2 39’s for the rear of mine, got them from Bridge Tyres in Somerset, they can get 48’s as well and im sure they do mail order.

thanks
Don’t forget to make sure that if you use a non Lotus (or Lotus specialist) source, that the A048s you get are the LTS compound. This is embossed on the sidewall.
thanks Alex
I have managed to organise a pair of lts ones
Where did you get them from in the end.

Is there a difference? - same softness rating on both- my tyre depot called Yoko supplier up to query this and was told that they were the same compound?
I called Yokohama directly some time ago and they didn’t want to go into details, but they assured me they were different compound and casing construction.
He mentioned they were made basically for heavier cars, which don’t necessarily have the direct feedback that Lotus have. So if the feeling is numbed slightky by all the power steering/weight etc, then they feel ok.
I imagine it’s more than better quality control.
He certainly put me off buying the non LTS ones.
Cheers Uldis - must investigate this further…
BTW snow up your way or have you had a respray
I also seem to remember a story about Gavan Kershaw trying about 20 or 30 differing compounds/construction of Yoki A048’s before settling with the ones now called LTS… I personally believe they would go as far as producing a ‘special under licence to Lotus’ and that the A048R will be different… are they much cheaper and does anyone want to try some ?
Rox
Gavan told Russ & myself, about 3 years ago, that he had developed the LTS for Lotus in conjunction with Yoko, & that numerous combinations of compound/carcass had been tested.
As it happens, I tried a set of non LTS 48 rears early this year, & IIRC they cost me, near as damn it, same as the LTS jobbies. They were marked as “MH” ie medium hard. They went on the car very soon after the engine conversion in Jan, & got replaced in June before I went to Le Mans. In the interim, I think I’d covered about 5K miles, with 4 or 5 trackdays (incl Croft), at least 2 of which were in the wet! To be honest, I couldn’t tell any difference between them & the LTS ones (certainly on the road). However, since then, I’ve always gone for the LTS ones, simply because of Gav’s original input to their construction, & the cost differential to the non LTS is/was negligible.
Sorry, but the above is not at all a scientific comparison, so I think that anyone who has a choice should try the non LTS for themselves - provided they are in their opinion “considerably cheaper” than the LTS jobbies. If the price difference is not of consequence, why change from LTS?
Hope this helps everyone a tiny bit, cos it’s the best I can honestly do
cheers Pesky
Of course, the much cheaper alternative these days is to try Toyo R888s. I’ve not tried them or heard much feedback on them yet, but my car’s first owner Tim Stevens can get a set delivered to you for 400 pictures of the queen, fully inc.
Got a set of the R888s delivered before Xmas. They’ll get put on after the next track day when I’ve destroyed what’s left of the AO48s.
well…
[waits]
so…
[waits some more]
come, you know out with it then…
[waits again]
emmmm… How much then ??
They’ll get put on after the next track day when I’ve destroyed what’s left of the AO48s.
Better get yourself and Fi booked up for Mallory on the 18th Feb then Steve!
4 x R888s for 360, but this includes a 40 cash back deal at TOYO. Will report back when they’re on the car
that does seem good…
