When did these get so cheap?

Hans

Come down a lot, and I’d have one if my helmet supported it

My missus doesn’t really have any clue about track days, I guess its fear of the unknown, the only time she is happier to see me coming back in through the door is payday. She is always pestering me to be as safe as I can, so I was going to take a look at these for next year. Where has the price come down? What’s the differences between the expensive ones and the not so expensive ones. I know nothing about them.

Yes that’s pretty impressive. You rarely see anyone using Hans on a trackday apart from racers (let’s not get started on that again) and the same is true for suits too. Hmmm something to think about for 2014…

Maybe the patent expired or about to so licenced to Stand 21…

Didn’t spot the hyper link.

Interesting comment on this page about the sizes saying it is better to go for the large whatever your neck size as this reduces the chances of the harness straps slipping off.

Produced from Glass filled Nylon so injection moulded not carbon fibre autoclaved and doesn’t have the strap locating system etc

Rumor has it there is a tool in China knocking these out …

Anyhow … that’s the reason for the cost down - Injection moulding is cheap in high volumes in a LLC

I had also noticed these were getting cheaper, as I needed a new crash helmet and Jacqui offered to buy me one for Xmas, I have a headtec crash helmet with Hans clips coming and aim to replace my harness and add a Hans during next year
I had seen these http://www.sportseats4u.co.uk/Schroth-Harnesses/Schroth-HANS-Device-Systems/Schroth-Sport-I-HANS-Device-(20-Degree-Medium)/prod_2502.html

If anyone’s thinking of buying a Hans device, make sure:

a) You get the correct angle for your seating position
b) The seat you’re using has compatible shoulder-strap holes

If in doubt there is loads of information on the Hans website: Hans Devices

A lot of the problems with complaints about the harness slipping off the Hans is because the seat isn’t designed for Hans, so the shoulder straps come through at the wrong width/angle.
