Finally got my exige about 2 weeks ago and now on the path of getting little bits sorted.
The previous ower seems to have been a bit careless so the alloys have been scuffed (and then touched up with black marker ) does anyone know of any places that do refurbs for these ?
May sound daft but have you tried yellow pages? there are quite a few companies offer mobile wheel repairs, come to your home or work and carry out refurb on the spot. Had a set of aftermarket alloys refurbed on my vauxhall for 20 per wheel including full clean and wax, there were only light scuffs but still thought it was a good price, looked like new after. He was a one man band covering Swindon and surrounding areas but there are national companies that do the same thing. Failing that, try your local friendly tyre centre, I’m sure they can recommend someone. hth
There is a good place just south of York in Bishopthorpe I think it was, the guy does TVRs and also rallies a Porsche! Email me and I will dig out the details and send them on to you, just cannot remember what the name of the place was at the minute…
he’s called ian jemison engineering http://www.alloywheelrepairs.com/ will weld up holes etc and his wife paints the wheels, very good results but costs approx 50+ depenant on repair
OK
The main problem I’ve found is that yes loads of companies offer alloy wheel refurb but as soon as you say the wheel is black the answer you get is “sorry mate, we dont do them”
At the moment the only option I seem to be getting is they need the wheels for a week so they can strip them right down and then redo the whole wheel.
Main problem is the exige is my daily car so its kinda difficult !!
It may be too far but there is a good one on the outskirts of blackburn about an hour and a quater from you. He does a drive in service, removes your wheels and tyres, repairs them then powder coats them in the colour required. The tyres are then properly fitted and importantly the beads are correctly sealed and then balanced. The wheels are refitted to your car ready for you to pick it up better than new - so to speak…Cost about 200ish
Get a friend to drive down with you leave your car for a day and pick up the following day, saves the hassle of a car up on jacks/stands.
Also leaving the complete job to the experts means that you are not liable for the usual scenario of a brand new set of reconditioned wheels ruined by some muppet when he re fits your tyres badly scratching all of your newly painted rims…
