what was your hobby?

Given up the basket weaving then, Steve?
Still do the odd one in winter Rob, but the Mesopatamians are knocking them out for a couple of groats these days, so hardly seems worth it.

Oooh, forgot, that too

Let me know when you’re there again, I’ll try and come and admire your catch.

Mountain biking, snowboarding, rock climbing, mountaineering, rallying and building rally cars were my vices pre kids. I still do a bit of each given half a chance. Looking forward to when the kids are old enough to join in.

Now I seem to be obsessed with taking apart perfectly good lotus’ then spending months rebuilding them while everyone else is out doing track days

Photography for me too, but after a few seasons shooting for MESC and LOT it’s just pics of the kids now.

Spent quite a long time trying to be a musician too.

As is the case for many others, these days work and kids mean there’s little time for much else :frowning:
Still is Motorsport & Scuba Diving. Was free fall parachuting till 6/ 7 years ago.

Age does weary one :frowning:
I loved free fall…

Main passion used to be paragliding ,also did a few years of powered flying but it ain’t the same.
Now I’m getting back into hifi again having moved into a detached house (crank it up!)

Looking to take some new interests up in the near future or maybe return to some “lost” ones from the past, so an interesting thread…

Always been into off roading and Land Rovers in particular, used to do a fair amount of mountain biking (maybe time to break out the old Alpine Star) and travelling far and wide always figured large.

Shooting sounds interesting, never done it outside of the military or since the handgun ban and always seem drawn to gunsmith’s row at the annual game fair.

For a long time now I’ve been meaning to go up and check out the local fencing club, something I’ve always fancied a go at. Touch away!!

Yep, can definitely see you with a shotgun Steve!! (‘Get offa my land, ya god damn vermin’ accompanied by the sound of a creaking rocking chair…)

And a banjo lol

Teens was mountain biking & rc car racing (Hi Boothy), 20s was formula and appendix k racing, moving to eastern Europe stopped the car racing, so went back to model cars. Next year will be back racing now that I am single again.

Used to snowboard & mountain bike but my knees can’t take too much of that now.

Was a “gricer”" when at school, travelled loads of miles on trains and had a huge layout in the loft. Sold all that to fund a cylinder head from Autosprint for my Mini … Downhill for cars from there

Played rugby at a relative high level until my back gave up …

Am now trying saling but it’s just so damn frustrating … I mean you want to go to point B but you have to point it in so many different directions to get there … And I want power !!

Well that’s a new one on me…had to look it up & I worked in the industry for many years!

Used to play a lot of squash, but knees aren’t up to it any more. Now doing quite a bit of cycling. 100 miles round Suffolk tomorrow. Wish me luck because I’ve not done nearly enough training

boring golf for me. been playing since i was about 15…sadly the average age of all the guys i play with is about 70…says it all really… 9 handicap to those who play…

I did the whole R/C game, aircraft, boats and cars before finally settling on fixed wing planes. Now I have projects in the shed that are pretty much untouched since the Exige moved in with us! I’ve learned to ride a motorbike (at 38 I hope it’s to soon for a midlife crisis!) but am starting to “get it”. I enjoy going to nearby Cadwell and the odd trip to Oulton (near my folks) and Mallory if there’s something interesting on (mainly historical). I realise that fuel is never getting cheaper and I must commit more time to model planes as its relatively cheap! I’m currently digging up the garden (does that qualify as gardening?) and would cycle the 20 miles to work if I could afford a decent treader!

Oh and until the Exige arrival I worked on airworthy WW2 fighters at Duxford, Cambs for 6 years. All voluntary, smashing people and awesome aeroplanes. It was like a bus mans holiday…

TT, loving the pool table, the legs remind me of the spoiler supports from the S1!

Kurt

I too did the rc plane thing ,started when 8 years old till 17 …1980,s pattern planes were/are the dogs b*****cs …
Sold em all now tho having briefly returned to flying them 7 years ago

Started the Rotax Max karting thing a few months ago , I had no idea when I got my kart just how hard it would be and just how much time & money it would take up , even though the Rotax engines are sealed and need to rebuilt every 40 hours by a registered engine builder at a cost of about 500 a time you still need to learn to be a mechanic , not unless your team run , the infinate chassis adjustment and carb and sprocket setups is unbelievable .
Last month I cracked two ribs just going round a corner just with the Gs pushing me into the side of the seat .
I’m only doing it for fun and I will never be competitive at 41 but it’s a great sport and love it .

Fair play matey, sounds like fun. I loved the couple of years of karting I did when I was about 18.
