I’m 2/3rds of the way to getting the brass together to do the Weltmeister or Komotec conversion on my Exige S2. 6-7k both. However, just started thinking last night that I should chuck what I’ve got at making the car:
HANDLE (Ohlins or Nitrons, toe links, Geo)
STOP>>> (AP big brake upgrade, hoses, fluid)
Plus,
Lighter alloys
Uprated glutch
LSD
Oil coolers and pressure gauges
AND in the meantime wait 6months to see how all the current run of guinea pigs with these new turbo/SS conversions fair on reliability.
The other BIG spanner in the works is do I forget the above and put the cash into trading up to an Exige S and add the factory upgrades over time with the peace of mind of a warranty.
Struggling to decide on which path to follow so views from fellow Exige’ers would be much appreciated.
(PS. cross posted on PH so sorry if you read this twice).
I think mr D06,
Has done the right thing,if you upgrade your engine then you definetly have to upgrade all the things mr D06 has done anyway,
so you might as well do these first without risk, and then the engine conversions will have some pro’s & cons ?
Similar thoughts to me, due to the winter offers from lotus im upgrading to an exige with sport and supersport packs. In the long run the costs will be about equal but this way I end up with an 07 car including the inherent model changes.

In your position i would not bother woth the super sports pack…on my S i got sports, super sports, lsd and ac…the super sports is the only thing i wouldn’t get next time round.
The rear brace is not as good as many aftermarket ones, the wheels are good but could really be a bit wider (204r wheels) and the bilsteins are ok but if you want stiffer springs (which you will if you go on track as the rear, especially, is undersprung after the weight of the SC went in) you will have problems getting them re valved to suit.
I would get my car as i did but without SS…i would get nitrons or 46mm Ohlins, sector 111 rear brace and 240r wheels or similar.

As already said if you get the S you are gonna have to do all the other up grades aswell. But you will have a good basis for future upgrades on the motor. RED are working on a 270hp kit for this summer which will be a development of the parts the 255 hp car use.
I would (and did) opt for the S. I will leave the power std this year and upgrade the chassis…and this time next year (when the warranty runs out) upgrade to the best of what becomes available over the next 12 months…
bruh_la, I know what you mean but all in its costing me 2K to change and wont be doing ‘lots’ of track days, so for me it will suffice, oh and anyway it arrives next week! Mines not an s btw.
The super sports wheels are lighter than the 240R wheels and are very nice, you only need wider wheels if you want to run slicks imo or even wider tyres, which then will weigh even more.
suspension is the key thing here and my car sticks to the road on 46MM Ohlins and you can tweak them for every track
but we all have our own ideas which is a good thing other wise we would all be driving Honda’s with single way Nitrons lol
Also if you went for the NA you should have got them to throw in a Motorsport ECU it transforms the car for road.
Lots of factors inc the discount, outstanding finance etc. I used to do a few track days with my old elise, but only did one in 2 years with my exige! I Know! And it is my only car so didnt want anything too extreme, also single damper adjustment is hopefully idiot proof-ish! Basically an all round good compromise, i even get my eletric windows as standard! Wont say what else cos i dont want to start uncle pesky off!
Ive not had chance to drive one with the ecu flash but i do like the banzi bit on the cam!
Took an S for a spin today care of Ben at Wilsons (cheers fella) and have to say I was very impressed. The S really is to my mind what the Exige S2 should have been all along. The extra “grunt” from the SS makes a lot of difference to the drivability of the car. The whole experience just felt more “nuggety” - strange word to use but seems appropriate!
I’m very tempted BUT still finding it difficult to justify the outlay when I could spend the upgrade money on really sorting out the handling and stopping power of my existing car. If I then decide more power is really needed…which obviously it will be
I can pursue the SS/turbo route later in the year or early 08 once I’m satisfied that these UK conversions dont go bang.
Another factor in all of this is that I am not neccessarily bothered about my Exige aging and consider this a car I will keep well into classic status.
I’m talking myself into circles here,
Oh BLLX, I’m still confused.
