What plugs for an S

Anyone know what would be the best plugs to use and how often they should be changed?

hi ade, standard plugs they fit at factory are NGK R PFR 7G.if you read the spec of the komotec 280 they fit uprated plugs to compliment it.how is your quest for more power?any more developments with a second waterpump on the charge cooler or a smaller puller on the supercharger?regards jim.

Lots of R&D going on at present, looking to make around 300fwhp in the end. When I have something concrete I will get it posted. sinclaire can now tune the ECU to your car which makes getting the most power much easier no where did I put that turbo…

Might be worth going to NGK 8’s or 9’s if you are upping the power.

For anyone that doesn’t know, with NGK spark plugs the higher the number, the more heat the plug will handle. (Champion spark plug numbers go the other way and i don’t have any experiance with those). Basically the number relates to the length of the electrode insulator inside the plug, the longer the insulator the more heat the plug will deal with before the tip melts.

I was told the best way to see if you are using the correct grade of plugs is that after a good run or track session, you want to see carbon along about half of the electrode.

The downside to running hotter plugs can be worse cold starting, with it being easier to ‘flood’ it. But to be honest if your car is mapped well, you shouldn’t have any problems. I run 9’s in my S1 and Dave Walker has only really had one go at the cold start map and mine starts ok from cold.

Sean…

Thanks Sean that is useful information
