As title really. What is the minimum advisable coolant temperature?
Thanks in advance.

Does this mean that you’ve actually got to the point of putting coolant in it? Are we actually gonna see you out to play this year bud?
Hi Ben,
It’s on the road and going to Emerald on Monday mate. Just wondering if 70 degrees when driving on the road is acceptable. I should think on a track it will rise a bit but it looks like I’ve now got an Exige that has and engine bay that stays very cool thanks to the Zircotec exhaust coating and removing the exhaust heat shield and pipe to the alternator. The cold air comes in the side vent and can freely move about removing any heat.
Running a 75 degrees stat at the moment but may go up to one in the 80’s.
80 degs.
Anything less is basically impossible and temps in the 70’s will likely be a sensor error!
Most cars run between 80 and 90.
The zircon will perhaps keep the radiant heat down in the engine bay, but will make no diff to the coolant temp.
Emerald is a great move! Get 3 maps done… Your own power map, a lean gutless cat free MOT map and a visiting drivers map with a lower rpm! Perhaps 4… to include a pop and bang map!
Hi Pete,
I’m also running the Pro Alloy large rad. The car always used to run at 75 with the standard rad and the 75 degree stat. I’ll defiantly change the sensor and see what happens when I drop the coolant next but I’m sure it’s reading correct. I’m running the old Emerald at the moment so it’s power map only. Just got to drop the running in oil out on Sunday night and put some proper stuff in for Monday, should be an interesting day out.
If you can get it to run at 70, then go with that. The cooler the engine runs, the more power it will make.
Good luck tomorrow at Emerald bud, let us know how you go…
In the dark and distant past I seem to remember costin&duckworth saying 70 degrees or so …
I’m pretty steady at 82-83. At 87 or thereabouts the fan comes on.
Today… It’s 72 degrees in Sydney…
Where did you get the 70 deg stat from Fluffy?
