I’m going to get an Exige soon. I plan to use it on the track quite a bit.
I wonder how well the engine and brakes will stand up to the punishment. Can someone advise me at to what extent these upgrades are required? I don’t want to spend silly money but I need the car to be able to do a good few laps on a hot day.
Second oil cooler
Motorsport radiator
AP 4 pots + uprated fluids
I am definitely going to get the ohlin suspension fitted and am toying with the idea of the LSD, does anyone have experience with it? Does it make the car more nervous?
On a totally unrelated topic, I went to Bell & Colvill to test drive an exige on Sunday, it was hammering down, which was good as it reasured me about the yoko tyres ability in the wet. About half an hour before I got there though, someone ‘mullered’ an Exige S on a test drive I think it was a write off.
I have experience with most of the above.
I would suggest you go easy learn you car and then see what you need. Brake wise trhe standard car will do fine just by changing the pads to a Pagid RS42or14s
Oil coolers are a nice to have plus an Accusump for added insurance.
The radiator is very effective would not do this in the UK unless you are racing it.
Stay away from the LSD unless you are putting a LOT more power through the rear wheels. The car was designed to have an open diff and works well like that. I have a LSD but then again I have 267hp!
Ohlins are brill I have got Plans 46mm kit and could not recomend it enough.
Most of all though gat your car and get some training - most cost effective way of being faster!
Thanks for that info, it’s not really about being faster, just I know how much more pressure track use puts on a car.
I want to be able to do a good few laps, even when it’s hot. My current cars brakes are virtually melted after 1 lap of proper track driving and the oil temp goes from 100 on the road to over 130.
That’s why I’m a bit worried about the brakes, also about engine temperature and maybe getting the extra oil cooler or the radiator. Ideally I’d get a second hand car with the super sport pack already fitted, but they are quite hard to find.
You could look for a slightly older car which has Performance pack this has the twin oil coolers and 4 point harnesses (they are a must!)
The Exige with coolers will pound around for many laps.
You could always see how you go and if you have issues with the brakes (I doubt it)go for the larger AP discs available through Elise parts or Plans they are larger and of better quality. Also you can get brake ducts i have them on my car which aids cooling.4 pots on a standard Exige are a big overkill
Ok cheers, yeah my ideal buy (given that the super sport pack is out) is an 06 model with sports and touring packs. Then I think I’ll probably get some better brake fluid and of course the ohlins and I’ll be all set!
