I must join the group thanks to Ben and BaT for the day.
First time out seriously on track in the Pesky beast and have to,admit I have a lot to learn about that WONDERFUL Supercharged Honda power… quite addictive …to anybody who asked No Its not for sale.
Once again its good,to,meet so,many Exige/Lotus enthusiasts making the social side as enjoyable as the driving.
Just need new rear discs and find the fuel leak before the next time.
Well,done everybody. See you soon.
Thanks lads, if everyone had a good time then that’s what its all about
So good to see so many of the old faces, new faces and fantastic machines all assembled at such an awesome circuit. S1, S2 and S3 plus some fantastic other Lotuses, Caterham (a few of those ), GTR, Clios, Patrick’s Yank-Tank all with the usual exiges.com driving-standards…honestly it does not get much better than that in my view.
Thanks to the whole BaT team for making it all run so smoothly. Its easy to forget the logistics involved with getting that many staff/cars/kit to the circuit and having a frictionless event like we enjoyed. Special thanks to Stu for sitting in race-control and keeping them honest.
Thanks too for to Hofmann’s Lotus for making the trip all the way from Henley. The 340R seemed to be going well (unsurprising really with Randy at the helm) and the demonstrator was a real stunner. Did anyone actually drive it? Sounds like they enjoyed the day and hopefully made contact with a few of you that will think of using them if you’re thinking about upgrades/changing cars.
My Exige felt absolutely mighty on the trip up and across Snowdonia. To my eyes, it is Exige perfection in its understated grey livery. As well as looking stunning, it stops, handles and goes, boy does it GO. Credit to Steve and Martin Edwards, I love that car and as I mentioned (mumbled, sorry public-speaking not my thang) in the driver’s briefing, my (and others) long-term ownership of the cars has been made possible by them, thanks lads. A very well deserved recipient of the Red-Caliper. The fact that later in the day he had his hands dirty fixing IDG’s car says it all Also fantastic to see John and W8CON. I actually got quite emotional as I stood alone in the pit garage first thing in the morning with W8CON, we all miss you Con.
So my car sat with Martin’s red machine (the Edwards favouring Steve’s Elise racer) in the paddock looking stunning. Yes I could have taken it on circuit and yes it would have been very very quick even with me driving. But its just soooooo lovely and I’ve got such a long history of breaking it there and I needed it to get me home. Instead I spent the day in my little blue/orange R300. Wow I love that car and every time I get in it, I’m learning. Its really suited to Anglesey and if you can restrain your right-foot and be smooth then its a very rapid little machine. Running with guys you trust (Sean/Dave/Ian) in identical machines is a LOT of fun and every time we hit the circuit we have a blast. Roll on Spa in July when JonnyFox and Wes will be out to play too, oooof that’s gonna be fun
When the rain came down I gave up all pretence of trying to be fast and let my inner-hoonigan take over. In that final hour when it really tipped it down I think there was only about six cars on circuit. The slightly over-zealous race-control wanted to call time as they thought it too wet and we all got black-flagged for hooning,…you try driving it in a straight line in the wet After Stu had a word with race-control (on both counts) those of us left, had a magical hour on an empty circuit. I think I did about 45mins in the car hooning about everywhere, the car was still up for it but I had to come in as I was utterly exhausted. Tim (wow those full-wets ) and Tom were both going well so apologies if you were stuck behind me dicking about. The spray was such that suddenly you were filling the Caterham’s tiny mirrors. You don’t get a much better day on circuit than that, and by the end of the day I was so knackered I felt pretty broken tbh.
After another entertaining evening at the Premier Inn restaurant we went back for a bit more action on Sat morning (well the car was at the circuit so it seemed rude not to). Not the same driving standards but in substitute we had absolutely stunning clear blue skies. I headed off at lunchtime for a 5.5hour slog back down South in the Exige. I practically fell out of the car when I finally got home…
What an epic x3 days. Its not that much of a burden to take the lead on the event but I do feel the responsibility. As many of you know, in order to get Anglesey on Good Friday this year, we had to forfeit having it on that date next year. My plan is to work up two or three options for 2018 over the coming months and then put it to a vote. Its impossible to keep ‘everyone’ happy but you can rely on me to try and find something that gives the majority an event to really look forwards to for next year.
Great write-up, Ben. You efforts are much appreciated by everyone. You’ve pulled off deals with BaT worthy of Bernie Ecclestone.
Can’t wait to see what you come up with next.
And glad you had fun too
Ha! I feel better now, thought I was the only one to get black flagged! You weren’t holding me up at all, I was having a great time following your sideways lines!
I had such a great time on the evo triangle blast in the lotus ( which seems caused my coolant leak after assuming the steam coming from the engine bay was nothing to worry about :-/ ) I’ve made the trip back down to blast through in the m2 today which I collected yesterday ( used zip world as an excuse to head that way ) thanks for organising Ben and I can’t believe it’s the first time we have done that run with you guys. Phil
I am waiting to see some footage from Steve, but apparently my Clio was a tripod for most of the corners. It certainly needs stiffer front springs as I was hitting the inside of the front arches and wearing away the arch liners! Also I need an LSD to get rid of the corner exit wheel spin I was getting.
Here here. thank you Ben. Only two of mine are unlocked, think it’s my own fault somehow as it’s two I had in my basket. Luckily they’re my favourite two anyway. I breathed on them slightly as it such a gloomy day, colours needed bringing out a little
It was a really great day. I’m looking at what other 105dB/unsilenced days I can find nearer to home now, but may go back to Anglesey before the end of the summer! Looking forward to seeing other people’s fav pictures… post away!
