Wet track day tyre

I am a bit of a wuss and do not trust my skills with AO48s or R888 on wet track days. I have a set of Toyo Tr-1 which I use for normal road driving in the wet and winter and they are fine on the road. I tried them on a wet track day at Donington and Something felt horrid. When I came off the gas it felt like the car made a lurch from the rear, as if something was loose and the car wriggled. It has all been checked and nothing is loose and it is all in fine fettle. Some said their cars felt also odd on that day because of strong cross winds. The lurch was when I was going dead straight.

People say that Tr-1s have soft sidewalls, I wonder if the lurch could be the sidewalls flexing. I found it very unnerving and it messed up the day. I am thinking of getting a set of AD08s for wet days…like Anglesey coming up, which was a monsoon last year.

I know many people hate TR-1 but I have always found them fine on the road, never used them on track before.

I’m always on AD08R - they are pretty decent in the wet, though they get a bit sketchy when tread gets low and you hit standing water. Like on a Belgian motorway on the way back from Spa, for example… :astonished: :exclamation:

Getting a set fitted tomorrow.205/45 on the front. Probably get to try them at Anglesey.

I have just had a set of wheels covered in Uniroyal Rainsport 3. They have a great grip pattern and were very highly recommended. I don’t fancy a track day with standing water in R888!

Dunno what they will be like on track but after10 years on 48s and 888s I’ve fitted Uniroyal Rainsport 3 and the car is a pleasure to drive even in heavy rain and no arse clenching running through standing water.less than £200 a set fitted it’s a no brainier.

Avon ZZS seem nice and progressive in the wet,…I have them on my R300. Don’t know if they do them in Lotus sizes?

Even the ZZR can be fun as long as you get them warm and there isn’t too much standing water.
