Weights

I was reading EVO this morning whilst on the bog, and was surprised to read that the new 991 Porsche Carrera is 57kg’s lighter than an Evora S!!

How can a car that has loads of sound deadening and refinement and is made out of steel (i think) be that much lighter than a relatively minimalistic Lotus that is made out of Ally and plastic???

Pretty sure the 991 is Aluminium

Not sure were Evo have got their info from? But weight is similar to S

Compared to the outgoing 997, the 991 wheelbase has increased by 100 mm (3.9 in) to 2,450 millimetres (96.5 in), with the overall length up by 70 mm (2.8 in) to 4,490 millimetres (176.8 in).[3] A new transaxle was developed so that the rear wheels could be moved 76 millimetres (3 in) backward in relation to the position of the engine, which significantly improves the weight distribution and cornering performance of the new 911. [4][5] Due to the use of high-strength steels, aluminium and some composites the weight has been reduced by 45 kg (99.2 lb) to 1,470 kilograms (3,250 lb).[

Oh ok, it states 1380kg’s for te 991

Still twice an S1!

Hey any guesses on what the weight may be on the new ronin 711 ?

I think the ever changing legislation takes care of inevitable weight gain & closing the gap between light & heavy cars.

Heavy cars have lots of scope to loose weight whereas fully compliant light cars will only gain the Kg’s IMHO.

So looking at the link Andy posted, it does weigh 1,380kg’s???

That name sounds like an all day supermarket. My guess therefore is 27,000te

Still makes the Evora lardy to say the least :frowning:

You need to read the small print.

Is it the DIN weight or the EC weight … DIN is with a full tank of fuel and a spare/jack ect while the EC weight is inlcuding a 75kg driver. No options added either.

1380 is the DIN weight - which makes sense in my case as Im deffo not 75kg

Also you see how they acheive the weight saving - I can tell you that for us in the Automotive plastic parts business weight saving ( thinner parts from stronger materials ) is very much a demand. Here in Japan they are experimenting with wall sections down from 2.5-2.8mm to 1.8mm for bumper facias - If you could save 30% weight on all plastic parts that would represent maybe 100kg saving - its quite significant.
