The Exige’s body panels are made using the cheaper and more traditional hand laid technique. This mean they’re a bit thicker and heavier.
what means cheaper handlaid tec?
same material I hope as used for the Elise 111R? Arent the front and sideparts 1:1 Elise parts and of the same plastic?
Ive got to call my Lotus dealer here in munich. I cant believe that.

Joe,
Dont worry. The front & rear clams of the Exige differ from the 111R in both the way they are made & dimensionally (not just the obvious ‘fastback’ rear).
e.g.The F&R wheel arches of the Exige are drawn down/over the wheels more so than on the Elise.
I believe the tooling for a hand laid mould is cheaper than the 111R system for production purposes, due to the lower volume of sale expected with the Exige. The hand laid process requires more finishing after being struck from the mould. This will not make it cheap or inferior.
There are plenty of other reasons for the weight difference between Elise/Exige, & it’s certainly not 40-50Kg anyway (more like 15Kg in equivelent trim).
