Weighed the car today and it starts with a 5!!!!!!

LOL, its not complete yet.

But basically the complete running car, with all fluids and about 10 litres of fuel. With the following missing:

Front Clam
Rear clam
Roof
Engine cover
Front bonnet hatch thing
Exhaust rear silencer

But it did have the standard wheels on and not the Speedlines it will run with on track

577Kg’s

Well chuffed.

All of the body parts that aren’t on it have been lightened as much as possible, so I think I will hit my 650Kg target!!

Plus new engine is 20Kg’s lighter!!!

Sean…

Bloody hell Sean, 577kg sounds like a great result.

650kg’s has got to now be a realistic target, all that work’s paying off!

How much with Driver on board

Hardest thing to lighten is the driver

And then he’ll have to carry ballast to meet the Mid Engined Series regs

Excellent Sean!

Hmmmmm Ballast, maybe I should throw a honda lump in the back. lol

That was only a joke, before everyone gangs up on me.

My aim was to realisticly get the car as light as possible, so that on track days it is as nimble and quick as it can be.

I guess at least with adding ballast, I can put it where I want to put it.

Exactly right

Yeah the driver could do with a few upgraded lightweight carbon parts!!

Sean…

Reading the regs Sean, it looks like you’ll need to get it up to 730kg’s but you probably already know that

Yeah 80kg’s. I reckon I am gonna use Pesky as ballast!!

Pesky, how do you fancy being bolted to my passanger side floor?!?!

It’d still be lighter than the driver’s side

Weren’t the organisers planning to add a further 50kg for having a sequential gearbox Sean?

I can see Seans next post - ‘Weighed the car today and it starts with a f*%*$@g 8!’

I think they were thinking about it, but I don’t think anything came of it. I will go and read the regs again.

Pesky, you are correct, but not by much, I am 83kg’s

That wouldn’t be the first time Pesky’s been pinned down in the passenger side of a car by a bald man!

Sean…

Aah, about twice as much as Mr Admin’s wallet then

LOL!

Wouldn’t it be showing off to compete with a passenger! You could charge for the ride, the ultimate form of sponsorship.

Hi Sean,
This figure is pretty much amassing! Well done.
May I ask some details…
Do you use plastic windows all around?
Have you lighten the doors, too?
Did you have two seats/harnesses when you weigh the car?

George

Hi George,

Thanks, but remember the car isn’t complete. I reckon all up it will be about 650kg. Should know by the end of next week.

To answer your questions, Yes I am using palstic windows all round, yes I am lightening the doors and no the 577kg weight was with just the drivers seat in.

Sean

Thanks for the reply Sean. Reason I am asking is that I worried too much about getting the weight of my car under or as close as possible to 700kg. Ive lightened as much as possible my doors, currently building a light wiring harness, purchased a plastic windscreen (luckily havent install it yet), removed everything that is not necessary, and generally speaking done a very similar weight reduction job like youve done (from what Ive seen in your other fantastic thread). Especially when I installed the full roll cage and the oil dry sump kit, I thought that I will reach the 700kg limit very difficult.
But now I believe its time to think seriously where is the best place to put the extra ballast!
Cheers,
George
