Oh dear not quite the evening I’d imagined 
Those that were running aside from a few noise issues seemed to be having fun. great to see jfk running again and the sound of Chalkeys Kawasaki thing was fab, but:
- Peter was a no-show, everything alright bud?
- JF had issues, ill leave it to him to explain.
- My car had fuelling issues which got sorted but I think were responsible for making me feel very spaced out. Feeling like that was not compatible with hooning so I only did the sighting lap
I was really looking forward to time on circuit with Jonny so what a pisser. The car looks awesome too bud, credit to you.
The compensation was of course it was great to see everyone
Not good to hear of all the problems on the day, hope everything gets sorted ok for everyone
Black flag on lap 3 for me despite having a trackday chambered GT3 box and a sport cat … I’d even fitted the standard air box .

JF’s car looked great as I imagined it would, engine bay and interior are fab
I took my exhaust inserts out because of encouragement from others tut tut tut, this was quickly followed by a black flag but my god it sounds good! Added to the fun for me!
JFK’s sounded good, a bit too good because then came the black flag, doh. I hope the cable tie camera mount held up…
All in all a great day, I’ve only done Donny twice but will def try to go more often.

I only go to Donny on unsilenced days as it is now impossible to get under driveby noise police without short shifting and backing off near the Mics, then I got warned to stop doing that as I was obviously doing it.
Was John black flagged due to induction noise then rather than exhaust?
99.7 db.
JSR and JF were both on the pit wall at the time and said it was exhaust noise.
I too had to pass the mic in Stealth mode when we returned.
Car was absolutely fantastic tho , a tad too fantastic for my driving talent on occasion !
So what are you S2 boys going to do about your Jim Valentine exhausts? No point having a great car, if you have to pootle around all the time.
I would say that maybe the packing has blown out, but Jim reckons his packing is invincible doesn’t he?!?!?
I am waiting to see how the one Dave has goes, also looking to add an extra external box for quiet days
I’m wondering if Jim can open them up and maybe alter the internals , perhaps with another chamber to make them a bit quieter ?
Not sure chambers are going to help I have many in the decat and exhaust. I think this is more about the amount of available material to kill the noise off as there is no turbo on a SC car to deaden the noise the exhaust has to do it, and I just don’t think we have enough material to do it.
The new exhaust Dave has on his is a very similar design to the Audi ones and they tend to be quite quiet but they do have a turbo. The design means there is twice the amount of silencer in the space available even though the boxes are smaller I can see this only having a good effect.
donny has two mics and one of them isn’t ever an issue, it’s just the back straight where you have to ease off and it’s easy to see where it is (the big mic in the metal cage on the left)
why don’t people just short shift it?
Personally i should have taken your advice a year ago Sean, a standard cheapo exhaust, quiet noise levels and treat it as a consumable. Would have been a lot easier than spending a grand on a proper exhaust and then spending more time and money trying to quieten it down.
There’s space to fit a larger silencer in the back though i think Jim’s issue with doing that is you’d end up with a heavier exhaust than standard so it seems a bit pointless. Still, if it was fit and forget and didn;t need repacked i’d be happy with that.
Good seeing everyone, great as always in fact. Sorry I sloped off early I had a few things playing on my mind that I wanted to get at on the car. A big thanks to John Shorrocks who was with me all day and evening yesterday and pretty much all day today not to mention the many house calls over the last week or so. Still in the dark at the moment regards the oil leak, brakes work though as does my dash… Fingers crossed the fix it fairies sprinkle there magic dust tonight whist I’m sleeping and tomorrow mornings drive ends with a clean undertray and no more residue, that way I’ll make Spa, I really really want to go!!!
Thanks to Stephen and Richie from Track Group as well for popping over in the morning before heading off to Spa for the LOT weekend, sorting out the fuel/ECU issues, it’s running beautifully.
So I only actually got one good stint on track just after lunch, the morning briefly I was building revs, breaking down or limping back to the pits. So here’s a few rusty laps mixing it with some Caterhams…slower Caterhams.
My 2bular works just fine btw Quiet too…

Gutted I was not driving there… and not even there!
I am (now was…) in the process of buying a flat and had to go West to meet the owner at 6 pm Wed… impossible to re-arrange! The offer of a place was there too… so I would have also I suspect joined the lost of Black flagged Loti!
Anyway, sounds like a mixed day… John, that is a bummer about the noise police man! JF! car sounds great dude! Is that a straight cut sequential gearbox you now have!!! Cool gear changes.
The vid make s me dislike Caterhams even more! Sooo ugly and so in the bloody way it seemed!!!
Shrek needs an outing! Perhaps the unsilenced day at Donny in Nov…
