Yes, well, I suppose it’s easier than catching the real criminals Plus it helps the statistics no end
Great for the government too, as they get to cash in on the motorist twice…sell the fancy plate at an auction, then fine you for daring to put it on a car
B@stards

Nope
My front plate (see pic in Autocar Article) landed me a $200 ticket on Christmas eve… stick-ons are illegal here too sadly… I’m fighting mine in court, arguing that motorbikes aren’t required to run a front plate for safety reasons and that I can’t safely mount a full-size NZ plate on the front of my car (overheating/fire risk)… wish me luck
I got pillaged the day it started … 30spot fine.
then told if i get caught again, court…and had i been using a private reg being caught a second time would have the reg revoked from the dvla!!!
arse holes!!
I have not had a front one on for years, but they have never noticed.

No front plate on mine and there is no way I am changing my reg. Wish the useless monkeys would find some thing better to do
Maybe another safe source of easy revenue and another positive ‘crime’ statistic…
sorry - very cynical today
Get the sodding, unlicensed, untaxed, uninsured drivers - imagine the revenue possiblities there
Err, not quite mate, that’s not how it actually works in practice. The cops go out in force - the camera reads the plate (or if it can’t, the same action follows), it fires the info off to the big computer(s), & within seconds they know if the car is taxed, insured, registered to a disqualified driver, or even a wanted criminal. 300 or 400 yards further down the road, there are cops waiting to stop the bad guys. I have driven through 2 or 3 of these “identification parades” in the past 6 months, without problems for me (in me Pug 107), but have seen loads of others being pulled over. To be honest, I’m all for it, if it catches the foregoing, & also pings those with stupid itallic lettered plates, or dodgy fasteners placed to change letters (I’m against the “hit & run” gits who try & get away with it because their plates are not legible) - however, I can’t see owt wrong with “spacings”, as long as the font is correct & the plate legible.
As a result of these checks, hundreds of cars have been taken off the road, throughout the UK, until the owners can prove they are taxed/insured - if not, the cars are scrapped. Surely this is something we all approve of?
I do have smaller than regulation letters/plates on the Exige, but they are easily readable. However, I know I’m technically taking a risk!
I have new plates on N1 TUT to match the new paintwork, fully legal ones, but I have cut the blank space off either side on the front one as it looked silly.
I dispensed with the big Lotus mounting plinth years ago.

I agree with you Mr P, but who is Mr plod gonna stop and nick (3 points + cash in the bank)… the accountable legal driver (eg… you) or the unaccountable scum who is on the dole and has no chance of filling the revenue coffers and no chance of attending court to be sentenced to 3 hours community service ?
//still in cynical mood//…
apologies for asking the obvious… but what is the penalty for not displaying a plate on the front? all the rules and legislation talk about not displaying the correct letters/spacing/font etc - no where is “no plate” mentioned

Is it legal to cut down a standard size plate if you only have five digits or less?
I dont know if its a real problem as I got a slap on the wrist a couple of times from the POleese for my cut down plate (4 letters) but only because there should be a massive space between the first and second letter apparently (according to the genius at Halfords aswell!) But would probably get that properly with the new crack down.

Sorry, don’t know the answer to that one, but in my book, having no front plate deserves some sanction (same applies to motorbikes too).
PS I’m also of the opinion that there are other criminal offences which the “boys in blue” should be targeting, rather than the vast majority of law abiding motorists, who are easy prey to monitor.

Don’t really want to pick issue with your sentiment…but…if the ANR camera can’t read your plate then it can’t check to see if its untaxed and uninsured. i think the guys in the cars would much rather pick up an unlicenced car than have to waste time with a licenced one with an unreadable (at least by the camera) number plate.
It’s a means to an end not an end in its own right.
Is it legal to cut down a standard size plate if you only have five digits or less?
yes - if you keep the standard spacing between the letters and numbers.
The bottom line is we all must obey the law, bitching about it isn’t going to help, if it’s a chance you’re willing to take in the name of vanity so be it…both mine are, back numbers to close, front a mini biker plate…nuff said!
