Chaps,
Noticed through the cold winter days that the Blue Beast fires up like a dog. Starts OK, but as soon as I give a “tad” of accelerator to get it out the garage, the engine floods instead of revving. Took about 10 minutes of very careful driving before the engine was warm enough to drive normally…
Then came the last two weekends where the weather has been warmer…and hell…what a difference. Fire it up and there’s none of the crap I had in winter!
So, do all you Exigers suffer the same winter morning grumpy syndrome?
2nd Question: Just found out from the previous owner that my 190 has never been subject to the recall?! The owner said that they never experienced a single problem with rev’s dying etc, so never sent it in for the remap.
So, is it possible that as a March '01 car, it had later mapping, or should I get down to the 'ol dealer immediately for an appointment? Furthermore, if it does need doing - is the dealer going to charge me?

I am always grumpy first thing in the morning…
Isn’t everyone ??

I’ll stand corrected but I think all cars will need it as it wasn’t available when cars were still on the production line.
I had it done by Lots when they were servicing it - they actually didn’t tell me beforehand so I didn’t get a choice. At the time there was differing opinions as to whether it was absolutely necessary if you had already removed the cat; and comments that it reduced the pops and bangs and seemed to calm the engine down in other ways. However, have a look HERE for the full details of other benefits

AFAIK none of them came out the factory with the recall as steve says… so i reckon you will need to take it in – however, if you look your chassis number up on the Recall Histroy part of the Lotus site (find link on other recent thread… maybe in Radical section ?? ) then you should find out for sure.
Regarding your cold weather starting/running – first thing i’d do was get the IACV cleaned out…
Thanks Chaps,
I checked my VIN against lotus records and the car has not been subject to the recall. I have suffered from the 5400 rpm problem twice. Thought it was leads as one of them was not 100% seated and after that I have not had the misfire since.Hmm!
Have contacted B&C so hopefully will get this sorted soon.
Re: grumpy winter starts - how involved is it to clean the IACV? (i.e. can I do it, or is this Lotus mechanic only stuff?)Understand it has something to do with bypassing air around closed throttle to manage cold engine idle?

If you can get under the car and access the IACV i guess it should be an easy enough job to take it off and clean it out… I haven’t done it but reckon it would be fairly straightforward – maybe also need to take the airbox off to gain access to hoses and stuff…
depends how keen you are to get your hands dirty i guess
