I finally decided to use a Honda engine for my restoration project so I am looking for a low mileage K20a + gearbox + all associated bits. also on the look out for conversion parts. (Kpro, wiring etc…) What I can manage to buy i wont have to fabricate (obviously ).
So if anyone has anything of the above they want to sell, just reply or pm please!
Thanks guys. 30k miles should be ok same as whats on the car.
I think I will be able to manage the swap. Its not the first time I swap engines. Back in 2003 I was the first non Japanese to swap a 2zz-ge into an MR2 and the first to use the 6 speed gearbox with it on the MR2
Admittedly that involved less overall modifications but on the other hand there was no documentation what so ever just a lot of skepticism and theories why it was not a good engine to use for the swap. Needless to say its the most popular swap nowadays in that car
The shifting mech was the worst part of it at that time, but I and a friend from the US managed to design a new shifter shaft that we swapped inside the gearbox to make it shift backwards. A few years later Toyota came out with the exact same thing in the corolla matrix and subsequently the exige
Re the swap. I should be getting SNS mountings and shifter. What shafts do you recommend? Full Honda ones or are the hybrid versions good enough?
Driveshafts - you’ll need bespoke ones, as neither the Honda nor Rover are suitable for the conversion. Then there’s the question of using the Rover/or other outer CVs on the shafts, with the Honda inners.
If you chose to retain the Honda ECU & have it “upgraded” by Hondata (as do most), only go for the “K Pro” version ie fully mappable by yourself.
Thanks. Yes Im definitely going for the kpro. As for the drive shafts. What outer CV options are available and what do you recommend? Im thinking of possibly buying a ready made set from one of the converters but I think some people do custom Honda outer CVs?
If someone could provide the length of the actual shafts from end to end and spline specs I could fabricate a couple. My uncle has all the machinery necessary. This would save me some considerable money I think.
