s1 4 pot aps if there any used ones out there…asthetic condition not a concern.
It might be worth ringing Maidstone Sports Cars. I know they had some quite a while ago which they offered me.
I’d stick with the standard calipers if I were you… nothing wrong with them and people have had some problems with the 4 pots…
What problems have occured, as I’m having some fitted at the moment with the standard front calipers on the back.
Jamie
Problem is a “long” pedal on track, with the set up you going for, unless you also fit Lotus Motorsport Brake Master/Clutch cylinders (search for a thread by Marc Osmond). Martin Edwards & myself* both went down this route.
Have a chat with Andy @ Maidstone, as he has previously machined a hub whereby an oem front caliper is fitted at the rear, plus a seperate small caliper for the handbrake. The Lotus Motorsport Elises used 4 pots on the front, & the 2 pots on the rear, but of course didn’t need a hand brake.
I’m probably wrong but I thought the Lotus front calipers were basically the same as the AP’s ?
The car only weighs less than 800k and main thing is to change is the brake hoses, unless your lucky enough to have a SC/Turbo.
The front standard calipers are APs, but they are only 2-pots… some people change them for bigger AP 4-pots and move the existing front calipers to the rear to help keep the balance.
They really don’t need anything more… I and plenty others have raced with the standard setup and it’s ok.
Dave, what are you on about, BIGGER is ALWAYS better!!!
I love the 4 pot front 2 pot rear motorsport master cylinder setup!!!
You just love the bling man
Plus, you need more brakes to stop that anchor in the back of your car
Yeah man, Anchors are good!!!
Well the last thing I want is a longer pedal, so I hope it doesn’t turn out like that.
I’m having the 4 pots on the front using GT uprights and the standad fronts on the back with GT uprights. A 111R master cylinder is being used instead of the standard item, but with a custom-made piston. Randy is doing the conversion and it’s the exact same set-up as on his race car. He reckons it’s the best pedal he’s ever had on any car.
Obviously I’m losing the handbrake, but I will probably take my car off the road soonish anyway. However, I’m still going to look into a lightweight spot caliper option when I get the car back. Hopefully I can get something to run off the existing handbrake cable.
What about a hydraulic handbrake ?
A hydraulic handbrake would be the easy route to take, however if I at some point needed the car to pass an MOT this would be a problem.
I’m also thinking of giving Time Attack a go and believe hydraulic handbrakes aren’t allowed.
I’m very impressed with the on track capabilities of the 4 pots along with the motorsport master cylinder upgrade, fitting of the motorsport master cylinder was a huge pain in the ass for me being a relative newbie to mechanical diy !!
worth it for the looks alone! helped that mine were more or less free mind

Not to mention the +w one in the driving seat
Luv ya really
How much pedal travel are you getting with the 4 pots after some hard track use?
None now…but without M/sport master cylinde 1"-1.5" inches ie enough to cause problems with h&t. Was absolutely fine on the road, but on track, far from ideal
Yeah I still have a rock hard pedal after a 20 minute race.
That’s what you say to all the girls
Yeah but I may need a bit of Servo Assistance “S2 Stylee” every now and then. haha
