I wonder if anybody here knows anything about the ‘Victory By Design’ TV series? It features Alain de Cadenet talking about, and driving some classic racing cars. It’s a very nicely made programme with some beautifully shot footage. Each episode covers a different Marque. They’ve done Lotus, Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo etc. There are a couple of episodes on google video:
At the Lotus festival at Donington this year, there was a video playing on the Lotus stand which included some really great footage of various historic Lotus. I asked if I could buy a copy, but they said it was a promotional video done for an american motor show, it was not for sale. I suspect it was actually taken from the Lotus episode of Victory by Design. I’d love to get a copy of it, but as yet it’s not available on DVD, and hasn’t been shown on UK TV.
I haven’t seen it on TV, all I’ve seen is the ones on google, and the clips on the Lotus stand. It was made for the American “Speed TV” channel. AFAIK it’s hasn’t been broadcast elsewhere.
That series has been re-run many times over here. I don’t know when they were created. I think there might be more than one Lotus show. He does get to drive a lot of really nice machines. There was a one-off prototype Jag that was particularly nice (wish I could remember what it was called). I do remember seeing Alain in an S2 Elise and Exige just not sure if that was this series or not. I could try and snatch off the Tivo next time they are broadcast, don’t know when that would be though…
