I am getting an awful vibration at about 2200 RPM, which feels as if its coming from the bulkhead behind the driver. It is pretty un-noticeable when holding revs constant whilst say, sat on the driveway, but if you are coasting and the car is slowing down through this rev range its sounds awful. I have tried holding things like the window, various bits of trim etc, but cant seem to find what it is - anyone had this problem? Its driving me insane!
Forgot to say, its sounds like a really loud buzzing, its not a vibration as such, but obviously(?) some kind of resonance from something, but what I have no idea!
Try underside of pax/drivers seat hitting the floor (insert old t-shirt/towel to check).
Piece of exhaust heat shielding that covers the u-bend between the cat and backbox (the one with 2nd lambda sensor in) accessible from rear pax wheel arch can break in two / rust through fixings to exhaust, drop and rattle on undertray.
I had this the other day sorted it by removing diffuser pushing any heat shield away from parts that it might vibrate against. Then fitted fibre washers between the two large metal washers that hold diffuser to chassis, found that these had not been gripping before causing vibration. Hope this helps.
I’m getting all sorts of vibrations in mine, also at around 2000 RPM and lower/ higher than this. I thought it was all part of the ownership experience as both my S2 elises suffered similar problems…
Found the problem. It was rear diffuser. Put some foam on it between the diffuser and car to space it. I need something more permanent but the theory stands.
Mine started again and found that this time it was the harness buckles (which are tucked behind the seat) vibrating against the bulkhead. Moved them and it stopped straight away.
I had this last weekend, came on all of a sudden and couldn’t put my finger on it.
Turns out the Mrs had dropped a metal pen out here diary and it went under the passenger seat.
