VHPD Got Me Puzzled

Getting intermittent 5.5k misfire, playing about with small bore inlet vacuum pipes seems to cure it, but then it returns at the most inconvenient time. Also rev counter keeps going on the blink - registering low revs and sometimes zero.

Any suggestions would be most welcome before I get the sockets ooot

Check the plugs into the ECU are seated properly.

PS I’m sure you told me that you only use 5250rpm max, even when on track

PPS Could be one of PaulH’s excellent pork pies stuck under the throttle pedal

Cheers Rob - I reckon it could well be an electric fault

ps the ol’ 5250 line is my excuse for holding everyone up

Def not speed sensor Graham - tried a couple of spare ones I have

A long time ago I had a similar problem and also changed speed sensors etc and it actually turned out that the wire from the sensor had chafed where it passes through the bulkhead.

Hmmmn Ben - could well be worth a check that - thanks

btw it manifested itself whilst ‘trying’ to keep up with one of those V10 Audi R8 convertibles over the Snake Pass - they are quite brisk

Yeah, check the wireing around the bulkhead plug.

It will do that when it detects a mis fire. Mine stopped doing it as soon as I had my Emerald fitted by Dave Walker.

Simon I had similar symptoms which finally turned out to be the small vacuum pipes which had split on the head side IE inside where you cant see the prob…changed them all and been fine eversince…although real VHPDs dont require all the tubes anyway!!

Wiggled a few wires and replaced the vacuum tubes and its now running as sweet as a nut

Thanks all - fingers crossed that the problem is now solved

Good news, matey.
