Just checking my car before I go away and then take it to have the new gear cables fitted only to find a leak onto the diffuser of a fluorescent green oily fluid. It’s not engine oil, gearbox oil, coolant or brake fluid. I was worried that it could be supercharger oil but that appears dry and clean.I think it from the aircon, the fluid glows like a haunted house at the fun fair. Aircon still works though…
What is supercharger oil like? Though I am 95pc sure its not that.
Yup that will be a UV / fluorescent dye which has been added to the refrigerant to help spot leaks in the air con system. If it’s the diffuser just in front of the rear off side wheel that will be the air con change points and where the pipes exit the sill from the front, if more towards the centre that could be the air con compressor.
You may find the coolness of the air con reduces over time?
I’m well thank you very much, trust you are too?
I’ve got the correct shape Lotus now to hang here, plus I find Seloc hard these days, must be getting old!
Good to hear you’re good Dave. I’m in fine fettle thanks - for a now retired old git. Unfortunately now Exigeless (it’s got a great new home with Mr Bean) as I’m spending most of my time in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Give me a shout if you ever fancy a trip over (same applies to other Exigers too)
Apologies for thread drift Keith - hope you get your dribbling sorted
… My car is in the shop having its new gear cables fitted and it appears my aircon compressor has sprung a leak, I hoped it was just a pipe. They are £1200 from Lotus (if they have stock) but I know they are a standard Denso part which can be had for about £250 IF I can find the exact part number and supplier.
It appears to be 447220 6364.
Anyone have any wisdom? I am looking to sell the car and want it all working. It still works now but is leaking and I would not sell it like that.
Eliseparts have saved the day with a new one and pipes much cheaper than Lotus. Thanks Will for coming up with a second option. Parts on the way to Gavin in Burton.
