V6 K series !!!

Has anyone tried putting the v6 2.5 rover engine (The one found in an 825) in an exige I believe it is 30 kilo’s heavier than the stock K series and shares the same gearbox and shaft configeration.

Definitely tunable, good torque obviously not in the same league as the magnificent honda unit but they are available for 100 a throw !!

Just a thought !!

Have a search, I thought it was too big.

Wouldnt a V6 be a bit, lazy, for something as frenetic as the Exige?

Nah, Ian, it will fit. Russ seriously considered this way back in 2003, but ended up going “Honda”.

It doesn’t rev to 14,000 then?

[That’s enough cheek from me, off on hols for a week]

Ian

but ended up going “Honda”

And we all know how that ended up

Thats correct tits up !! should have stuck to the trusty old K

Nah, I had already blown two of those up.

All this talk about blow-ups and Pesky will be along again in a bit

Too heavy and expensive to tune!

Specially for you Mr Jones:

I think V6s are inherantly out of balance engines. Apart from 2 cylinders, double the amount of cams, 8 more valves a load of KGs and another 700cc I can’t imagine what you could really gain.

They are ‘top heavy’ though just how Pesky likes 'em.

I think this V6 may be in-balance even up to Mr Erlands standards, likely to have over 1000bhp too when properly mapped, lets hope randy does a conversion for the exige

It will still be ‘out of balance’ as any other V6, it’s the secondary forces that just dont cancel out and require balancer shafts to help sort out.
Randy’s Nissan V6 also has the luxury of sitting the proper way around giving better induction and exhaust paths too and, yes, I’m very envious and would do almost anything for a group C car!

Randy sent me the dyno plot earlier here it is.

Am I reading that right !!!

Am I reading that right !!!

Yep.

Don’t forget, this is the Mk1 Micra it fits in:

Makes for interesting reading. Obviously the majority opinion is that it’s too heavy and a poor imbalanced engine, with no experience of this i can’t comment either way all i can say is for a fact it definitely fits, as a friend has done it, but unfortunately aborted the project before he got any futher than this !!

I actually thought that they were tunable but what do i know !! Not a lot…

There was a feature in Track & Race car about them I believe. Yes, they are tunable and you can get usable power out of them (hillclimbers and the like use them)

Effing expensive to do though.

There were also rumours floating about that Lotus had a V6 mule elise under testing for ages. Pretty sure they discounted it

It wasn’t the KV6 though.
