urgent brake problem

ok, i have fitted new motorsport master cylinder, AP 4 pots, new braided lines, new fluid.

problem is this-- after about 10 mins driving the front brakes are binding up badly, to the point they are stuck. Wait 5 mins and they ease off.

Any ideas? i really need to get this sorted in time for EGP on friday.

Junks thinks it could be a faulty master cylinder?

Anything else to try before trying to get another one from lotus?

TIA, marc.

How tight are the pads between the discs and the piston face of the calliper Marc ???

When the discs are cold is there any drag, can you spin the wheels when the car is jacked up.

Yeah as long as everything has bolted up straight with clearence, I would go with faulty master cylinder or sticking caliper. I have seen this with calipers that have sat around for a while and the pistons get corosion on them and stick in the bores.

check that you have free play at the top off the pedal.

Mixed dot fluids??

it was the rod to the master cylinder.

I removed the master cylinder, made sure the pushrod was wound all the way in and sure enough there was too much rod sticking through the bulkhead.
On closer inspection between the old one and the motorsport one the depth of the ‘female’ cup on the cylinders are different depths by around 7mm, so i cut 10mm approx from the thread of the pushrod, and hey presto everything works as intended

many thanks for all the replies, i can now look forward to to EGP at the weekend
