buy the 08 model…
Get the 08 with LSD and yes you do need it if you want to up the power one day…
i had lsd fitted to my 07 as an opional extra, they told me it cold not be retro fitted by lotus, the dealer asked lotus for me i did not ask them.i know that you can fit a lsd to almost any car but under warranty by lotus thats an other thing ?? about the lsd it pushs on in the coners a little but that can be dailed out with the geo settings.WHATCH OUT IN THE WET THEY BITE BACK AS I FOUND OUT
The dealer would likely chip sixth gear when installing…now this is not a bad thing if you replace it with a US Celica 6th…it’s taller…80mph=3,500 vs 4,000rpm…
I’m trying to work out why every body keeps saying that an exige with a LSD fitted pushs on into corners?? The type fitted is a torque biasing variant, which at no point EVER locks up. It is therefore no different to an open diff when the car has no power/torque applied. So it should turn in exactly like a normal open diff.
NOw when power is applied it distributes to torque evenly, if one wheel spinnsit sends more torque to the non spinning wheel (slower spinnning( not sure how. I am sure majic is involved. )
I took mine on track, (Donnigton) the other day LSD fitted and found the car handles very well, although mid engined is a whole new ball park to front rear drive. What I quickly found out was that to tighten the cars line in a bend, the best thing to do was to apply power . which is the same as my Caterham
Although the BIG armfulls of opposite lock were not required.
So to my original point, if I have misunderstood the workings of a Quaife /vicous diff then I would like to know how they work and WHY they would make an Exige understeer on corner entry.
A LSD tries to make both wheels rotate at the same speed, hence in a corner, this will try to straighten the car up, giving the understeer effect mentioned. This effect is noticable on slippery roundabouts, instead of getting oversteer first when applying more power, the front wide gets pushed wide.
rite, phoned the dealer, he is goning to get back to me with ideas. if he cant do it, i am gonna kick. not fair but its my 35k!! i am going to upgrade it, so i want it to be right.
thank you for the help guys
ps it has just come to my attention that the dealer replaced one tyre on the back…why? limited slip differential!!!

If the remaining tyre still has a similar amount of thread then its probably been a puncture, or damaged sidewall. If the tyres are uneven, I’d get that sorted as well before considering buying.
Is the Exige orange, if so I know why the tyre was replaced. Loads of pics and other stuff about the car on a recent run with the Irish guys which I organised.
