Can someone post a definitive Tyre Post, listing say the top 5 available for the S1/S2, and reviewing each for road/track, wet/dry etc. I think this would be very useful but don’t have the knowledge I’m afraid.
Prices, wear ratings, sizes and suppliers would also be good. Anyone up for it?
All a bit tongue in cheek of course, but truth is… why compromise, unless by need you are doing lots of commuting. Its not really worth sacrificing the OEM stuff in this department.
I do do a lot of commuting, about 14k miles per year, and a few trackdays too, I’m not trying to compromise, I just thought that some tyres might be as good as AO48’s seeing as 99% of my miles are on the road and a third of the time it is wet?
Also there are always a few tyre threads going around so I thought it would be good to create a knowledge base.
Not everyone on this board does mainly trackdays you know, can anyone be of any help?
I was on a wind up, didn’t mean to be genuinely patronising or anything, apologies if you took it that way, but tyres are discussed a lot on here and the info is not really going to keep warm for long as tyre manufacturers bring out new stuff all the time.
I’m pretty sure that most folk round here will agree A048’s and A039’s are the only ‘safe’ bet. Toyo Proxes have their fan-base and the jury is still out on their new 888 but it costs almost as much as an A048 and doesn’t last much longer - also has about the same wet grip by all accounts.
And anyway, if you choose anything other than the Yoki’s you are deffo compromising… no way anything else come close.
Also I would have thought living in Chesire, you would have to put up with a whole lot more than 33% rain
For what you want I think you should get some Goodyear F1’s… last year I was at a very very wet and foggy Cadwell Park on my A048’s and an S2 exige on Goodyear F1’s lapped me in a 20 minute session… he was a good pilot but the grip he had compared to me was unbelieveable.
If it helps matters, I am running Kumho Ecsta V70 on my track wheels (the Speedlines).
Same idea than you, and am always curious and trying different things.
I found out that they work better than A048’s in the wet and about the same grip in the dry.
But oddly, they don’t squeal when sliding.
Lows are that the front tyre is a 205 but both profiles 9205 and 225) are wider than the Yoko ones because of the square profile.
They put more rubber in the ground and the more solid walls mean they tramline a bit more. Not an issue at the track but for some on the road.
You could try those for about 400 a set.
My view? I’ll continue happily using those, unless I have to use Yokos, like on a race series
