I can hear you all yawning and saying search the forum you lazy tit but…
Shall I buy A038’s or 048’s. Due to driving like I knicked it I seem to have blatted through a pair of rear 48’s in no time. As I mainly use it on country roads full of gravel and crap should I change to 38’s?
Anyone had any good quotes recently for either types? Recommendations will be greatfully rec’d (regarding tyres smart arse)
I think you mean 39s. The rubber rating is apparently twice as hard as the 48s and should therefore last about twice as long. Grip is pretty good but not quite up there with the 48s. They’re also more expensive. Probably better in the wet though. Still only 5mm of thread mind.
If I was just driving it on the road I think I’d use Goodyear Eagle F1s or Toyos T-1Rs. Last longer, less grip, so more fun at road speeds, cheaper.
Just put 39’s back on my car after a going through a set of toyo T1s and T1r’s. The toyos are OK by road tyre standards but the 39’s are shed loads better especially when you get some heat into them. Only trouble is the price. The 48’s will be a better track tyre (39’s tend to melt as they are very soft) but no good ifit rains… Horses for courses really.
I was going to try some Kumho V700’s next, cheaper than the Yoko’s and supposed to be very soft too… Plus 8mm of tread (cos I’m a pikey)… And the fronts are a narrow 205 instead of the 195’s…
Doh - yes sorry 39’s - thanks for the feedback everyone.
I have some part worn P6’s for the rear but was advised they were pants so am reluctant to fit em especially with the existing 48’s on the front. My current rears must be right on the limit. I dont fancy 6 points if the rozzas are hanging about around croft :-/
Limit is 1.2mm isn’t it?
Any other suppliers I should try?
For info and to prove I’m not so lazy all the time…
And finally, The Law
Tyres on cars, light vans (not exceeding gross weight) and light trailers must have a tread depth of at least 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the breadth and in a continuous band around the entire circumference of the tyre.
Tyres must be suitable (ie of the correct specification and size) for the use to which the vehicle is being put and must be inflated to the manufacturers’ recommended pressures.
Tyres of different types must not be fitted to opposite wheels of the vehicle (for example, radial-ply tyres must not be fitted to a wheel on the same axle as wheels already fitted with cross-ply tyres and vice versa, and a two-axle vehicle must not have radial ply tyres on the front axle if cross ply tyres are fitted to the rear axle)
No tyre must have a break in its fabric or a cut deep enough to reach the body cords. No cut must be more than 25mm or 10% of the tye’s section width in length, whichever is greater.
There must be no lump, bulge or tear caused by separation or partial fracture of its structure, neither must any portion of the ply or cord structure be exposed.

Oi Mark!, those are the ones I will be trying out at Croft.
Hope they’re good.
Otherwise, the best ones I’ve tried so far are the Yokos A048’s and the ones that I like for the road (because they’re cheap and because it rains a lot here in Scotland) are the Toyo T1-R’s.
Uldis let us know what they are like, i am looking for something with more grip than the 39’s when cold but must be road legal for some events, don’t have to last very long. I just don’t want to lay out what works out to 1000 pounds here for another set of 39’s just for limited road use and a few gymkana events.

Sweet, Liam seemed to like them on his Elise (and we all know that Liam is bloody quick!) so should be good! I take it you have the uprated toelinks?
