Tyre weights

Based on a couple of posts and wanting to satisfy my own curiousity I have had a dig around on the web and come up with some interesting results

R888 195/16 weight = 20 lbs
R888 225/17 weight = 24 lbs
Details here - http://www.racetire.com/products/toyo_r888.htm

A048 195/16 LTS weight = 19 lbs
A048 225/17 LTS weight = 21 lbs
Details here - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Yokohama&tireModel=ADVAN+A048

So a set of R888’s = 88lbs or 39.92 kilo’s
A048’s = 80lbs or 36.29 kilo’s

Looking at the comparative specs is also interesting and although they may be the same size the R888’s are slightly wider.
I can’t be arsed to check any other differences !!! but interesting all the same

Info is great …
Please don’t get me wrong on this as I love mods and helpful info …as we all do …

But I would hazard a guess that less than 1% of us (non racing) drivers would notice a difference in our cars with a fat passenger of 80 KG ,let alone some lighter tyres ?

Weight savings of these minute amounts won’t affect us lot !
Before you flame me … I say non racing drivers
Of course ,if you are at the top’ of your game you will be smiling right about now

Come on JFK, lighten up

Yesterday I weighed some under garments and found that when in one of steph’s thongs I am 2lbs less than in boxers, I also found when I fart in said thong I can play Mr blue sky by ELO.

PMSL@Boothy!! or should that be Booty (shakin in a thong)

Good post Chris, very interesting

Top trump!

Pardon the pun ??

I am on a diet too !@

There is information in this post that I never wanted to know, and now I am going to be scared for life :frowning:

Fair point but I know from my cycling that rotational weight saving brings much bigger benefits that static weight - why do we all crave lighter wheels & why do companies make them ?

Unsprung weight and rotational inertia, as we know, is more important than sprung weight. The general rule of thumb says that 1 pound rotational or unsprung weight is approx equal to 10 pounds static weight.

We all spend cash to save a few kilo’s yet we can save 3.6 kilo’s for maybe an extra hundred quid for the difference between 48’s and 888’s

Just trying to help and provide info so we can all make an informed choice !!!

After the thongs today I really did weigh the 2010 cup 260 rear wheels.

7.5kg’s… Could not get a tune out of them for sh*t though.

Great info Chris and was good to meet you on Friday at oulton, was a great day, hope you got the “pampers” sorted and am glad you had a gremlin free day.
