Hello all,
This is my first post here. I owned an S1 Elise a few years ago and went to the dark side with a few other cars but just bought an 05 N/A Exige. I do the AEMC sprint championship so will be running the Exige in this. I have T1R’s on it so can anybody give me base set up with tyre pressures to work from. My Elise used to be VERY changeable with tyre pressures.
Many thanks,
Ive driven a s2 exige on track with t1rs and i couldnt believe how little grip they had. Id switch them for some 48s and start off with 22/24 f/r. HTH cheers Ed
A048’s are fine on the road as long as you are careful in the wet. They can aquaplane if you hit standing water at speed, but otherwise they are fine in my experience. If you intend to take your car on track, A048’s are essential as the Lotus developed LTR versions give terrific grip in the dry which cannot be matched by most other road tyres.
Because the A048rs are road tyres.
And youre sprinting!
I have T1Rs on my car, as winter tyres, and just because they clear water well, but I dont rate them even as a road tyre. The thing is that the cars weight is not enough to work the rubber, and the T1Rs casing is too soft.
But hey, if you like them thats you. Ive played with pressures on track and couldnt get a sensible result.
Just dont expect to be near the front, they dont have enough grip in the Exige/Elise.
Apart from the A048s, tyres that I also rate highly are Kumho ECSTA V70, and they come in 3 compounds.
I think Mark is referring to the fact he’s competing in a class for road-going cars. This will restrict his choice of tyres to either original factory fitment, or a list of specifically approved tyres. A048s will not be on that list.
Thanks, but Brendan is right, I am in a “roadgoing” class. I have to have tyres in list 1A of the blue book. 048’s and the Kumho’s are 1B’s. I will just have to play with pressures and see how I get on, I know they will not be great, but in my class everybody is in the same boat !
I know of a couple of sprint cars that have used T1-Rs very successfully. I can’t be much help with your pressures, but the wear on the tyre was very important. As new the blocks are quite tall and you get quite a bit shifting, but once the tyre had worn down they were brilliant.
I know of at least one person who was getting the tyres cut down to about 3mm of tread and he ran very well on them (albeit with a heavier car). Good luck to you.
